Providence is calling a Respiratory Care Practitioner (Respiratory Therapy, Variable, 0.9 FTE) to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Washington. In this position you will:
Consistently demonstrate adherence to Medicare and Medicaid regulations which directly or indirectly relate to the performance and job expectations.

Actively participate in departmental and organization performance improvement activities in accordance with hospital and joint commission standards. Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
Demonstrate leadership by performing his/her work in a manner that meets or exceeds the level of care and service that PSMMC promotes to the communities we serve. RCP is able to work independently and exhibits productive time management skills.
Participate in hospital and department specific practices to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff.
Maintain the security and confidentiality of data and information used in performance of his/her daily duties conforming to hospital policy, laws and regulations as appropriate.
Follow established Infection Control policies and procedures to identify and reduce the risks of acquiring or transmitting infection
Provide clear, concise, pertinent reports/information.
Contribute to the assessment of the patient for appropriate care and therapeutic modalities.
Perform cardiopulmonary assessment at least once per shift with therapy.
Recognize and report signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect for all ages of patients served.
Perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic testing accurately (ABG’s, oximetry, weaning parameters, etc.).
Ability to perform ECG & follow through with documentation and electronic ECG transfer to physicians for interpretation.
Follow age specific standards, policies and procedures and standards of care in administering medications to patients.
Use age specific policies and procedures and guidelines to perform treatments and procedures.
Accurately transcribes and implements physician orders.
Demonstrate ability to take emergency action when required.
Utilize available information to evaluate the effectiveness of care in producing the desired patient outcomes and makes adjustments in care as indicated.
Provide for the safety needs of patients.
Provide respiratory ventilator management and monitoring for patients.
Utilize a collaborative interdisciplinary process to provide appropriate patient/family education.
Education of patient on respiratory equipment and medication administration utilizing age specific guidelines.
Document patient/family education. Communicates information to appropriate person(s) accurately and timely. Documents accurately in the EMR.
Participate in effective shift hand off at shift report time.
Participate in interdisciplinary patient care planning, as assigned.
Utilize and documents to the interdisciplinary plan of care and goals.
Support a departmental environment that is conducive to growth and learning. Helps staff improve their knowledge, attitudes and skills.
Maintain positive working relationships and fosters a cooperative work environment.
Communicate clearly and appropriately using age specific standards with patients and families of patients.
Communicate in a professional and appropriate manner when interacting with colleagues, supervisors, peers, physicians, etc. Friendly, positive customer and co-worker relations required, within and outside the hospital. Creates a collegial, mutually cooperative team approach to daily interactions.
Report and document any unusual patient or administrative occurrence that may have an effect on the patient’s and/or staff’s wellbeing.
Handle conflict and concerns. Seeks resolution in a timely and professional manner.
Support the orientation on new personnel and students. Welcomes and encourages new staff members and students.
Organize and assign the Respiratory workload according to department policy. Maintains staffing at appropriate levels for current and consecutive shifts, including low census notification, adding or replacing staff.
Serve as respiratory resource for physicians, staff members and other departments.
Ensure accurate patient billing.
Ensure effective use of Supplies/Equipment – minimizes supply wastage.
Ensure effective use of facilities – promptly reports facility maintenance issues to appropriate personnel.
Adhere to safety precautions including hazardous wastes and proper sharps disposal.
Perform daily maintenance of QC and ABG machines.
Clean and maintain respiratory and ECG equipment in good working order.
Document assessments, interventions and evaluations of care accurately, objectively and timely in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Practice and observe safe, clean technique throughout procedures.
Practice and observe sterile technique during identified procedures.
Demonstrate ability to alter communication style based on condition and age of patient.
Demonstrate ability to perform ventilator management.
Assure good pulmonary hygiene.
Demonstrate ability to perform ABGs, document in the EMR and communicate results to the ordering physician.
Demonstrate ability to perform Heliox therapy.
Demonstrate ability to perform ECG proper lead placement, recording and processing through to the EMR for physician interpretation.
Demonstrate ability to perform patient monitoring.
Demonstrate ability to correctly administer respiratory medications, Surfactant administration and RSV wash.
Demonstrate knowledge of proper airway management, Tracheostomy Care, Oral, Nasal and Endotracheal Tube Suctioning.
Pediatrics: Demonstrate understanding and skills necessary to care for the infant/child/adolescent presenting with respiratory illnesses or injuries.
Demonstrate ability to provide neonatal life support by completing the NRP provider course and maintaining certification and participating frequently as a team member in deliveries to maintain skill level.
JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:
Identify appropriate community resources for follow-up care acts as a liaison when necessary to validate compliance with physician orders for post hospital stay care.
Take initiative in assisting other members of care delivery teams; participates in Codes, Traumas, Rapid Responses, Births, Transport of patients, patient and family education, discharge planning and post hospitalization needs to keep patients from frequent readmissions.
Accept objective suggestions for improved performance.
Constructively provides feedback on personal and coworker’s performance with a goal for continued process and work improvement for better patient outcomes.
Regularly attends department meetings. (50%).
Employee completes all tasks and duties accurately and timely within assigned shift.
Document work in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Demonstrate initiative to perform job duties independently.

Required qualifications for this position include:
Associate's Degree From accredited Respiratory program.
State of Washington license in Respiratory Therapy
Registered with the National Board for Respiratory Care (CRT or RRT preferred)
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (Must be AHA accredited)
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
NRP (through AAP) and maintaining certification
