Providence Health & Services Patient Services Representative - Float Staff in Walla Walla, Washington


Providence is calling a Patient Services Representative (Float Staff, Variable-Shift, 0.5 FTE) to Providence Medical Group Southeast Washington in Walla Walla, Washington. In this position you will:

  • Consistently demonstrate adherence to the principles and requirements outlined in the Commitments and Compliance Integrity Program and any other organization or departmental materials related to compliance with laws, regulatory requirements

  • Consistently demonstrate adherence to Medicare and Medicaid regulations which directly or indirectly relate to performance and job expectations

  • Employee demonstrate knowledge of PSMMC’s and PMG’s policy on Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities and respects these rights and responsibilities in carrying-out daily activities

  • Actively participate in departmental and organization performance improvement activities in accordance with hospital and joint commission standards.

  • Demonstrate leadership by performing his/her work in a manner that meets or exceeds the level of care and service that PMG promotes to the communities we serve

  • Participate in hospital and department specific practices to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff

  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of data and information used in performance of his/her daily duties conforming to hospital policy, laws and regulations as appropriate

  • Follow established policies and procedures to identify and reduce the risks of acquiring or transmitting infection

  • Maintain positive working relationships and fosters a cooperative work environment

  • Communicate effectively to patients, physicians and staff in a professional manner

  • Provide clear, concise, pertinent reports/information

  • Relay information related to patient care and conditions to appropriate staff in a timely manner

  • Maintain and organize all patient and departmental information, patient care information in an orderly manner

  • Answer telephone identifying self and department in a clear and concise manner

  • Greet patients and families upon arrival

  • Copy, mail, and fax as requested

  • Respond to requests for patient appointments using the established procedures

  • Record telephone and verbal patient conversation/messaging in the EPIC EMR as instructed on the EPIC Dial

  • Personally notify the provider and/or RN of a stat call from a patient or family member, another provider and/or hospital

  • Answer any MyChart questions and assists, if requested, the patient in signing up for MyChart

  • Collect required information from patients and enters it correctly in the EPIC EMR

  • Must be trained in the EPIC EMR required course upon hire and pass the competency test

  • If further training and competencies are required, must participate in the training and pass any further competency mandatory testing.

  • Demonstrate knowledge when entering insurance information and asking the right questions in order to gain that information.

  • Work the mandatory work queues to ensure accounts are billable.

  • Collect co-pays and balances.

  • Demonstrate ability to navigate EPIC EMR system effectively and responds to all required training in a positive manner.

  • Assist in training new PSR’s in all aspects of the PSR job responsibilities.

  • Expected to cover in other clinics, if needed. Be adaptable for cross-training.

  • Assist with the ancillary service scheduling when needed and be a resource to others in helping facilitate patient appointments outside the clinic setting.

  • Act as a resource for all new hires in demonstrated knowledge of insurance companies.


  • Attend 95% of staff meetings

  • Willing to assist and accept assistance from staff members

  • Accept suggestions for improved performance.

  • Demonstrate a concern for efficiency and cost effectiveness.

  • Utilize principals of service and excellence reflecting the Mission of PMG.

  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, acts professionally at all times.

  • Adhere to safety precautions including hazardous wastes and proper sharps disposal.

  • Responsible for monitoring the safety of the environment.

  • Work independently as well as with others to accomplish necessary duties.

  • Demonstrate understanding of registering patients completely and accurately.


  • Employee complete all tasks and duties accurately and timely within assigned shift. Demonstrates initiative to perform job duties autonomously.

  • Attend mandatory and other education offerings per department and hospital requirements. May assist with education on the unit.


Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Field

  • 2 years experience in the healthcare setting or Associate, Bachelor's Degree in the medical field

  • Healthcare related computer experience
