Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) (Medical/Surgical, Variable Shift, On-Call) to Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
In this position you will:
Assess, diagnoses, plans, implements and evaluates patients’ care
Develop, update and coordinate the patient’s plan of care to achieve patient goals and to optimize outcomes and transitions across the care continuum
Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate
Perform and maintain currency of essential competencies as required by specific area of hire and populations served
Effectively advocates for ethical and holistic care by partnering in care planning to promote the autonomy, dignity, rights, values and beliefs of those we serve
Foster a learning environment for patient/families, nursing, and other members of the healthcare team including students; facilitates formal and informal learning for patient/families, nursing, other members of the healthcare team, and community.
Be accountable for safety, identifies and corrects problems, and integrates evidence, and best practice into nursing care; uses data and evidence to improve patient outcomes
Align patient safety, self-safety and environmental safety as equally important for best outcomes
Engage in ongoing professional development; practices to the top of license within the legal parameters of the Nurse Practice Act, the Nursing Social Policy Statement, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and specialty standards
Promote a culture of inquiry that explores, integrates and disseminates research and evidence based practice
Lead and coordinate teams, appropriately delegates, coordinates care and collaborates with others as equal members of the inter-professional care team to integrate nursing knowledge, models professional behaviors as a representative of the nursing profession
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Nursing degree/diploma upon hire
All Registered Nurses without a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing must obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or higher within three (3) years of hire
A RN with twenty (20) years of RN experience will not be required to obtain a BSN
Active Alaska state RN license
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider card upon hire. Must be from the following authorized governing bodies:
American Heart Association (AHA),
American Red Cross (ARC), - or-
Military Training Network (MTN) upon hire
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be from American Heart Association (AHA) - or- Military Training Network (MTN) within 90 days of hire
The following certifications within six (6) months of hire
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be from American Heart Association (AHA) - or- Military Training Network (MTN)
Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC)
Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) must be from American Academy of Pediatrics of American Heart Association (AAPAHA)
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) must be from Emergency Nurses Association (ENA)
Twelve (12) months of acute care experience working with the patient population similar to Medical Surgical -or- completion of the specialty residency at Providence Valdez Medical Center

About the Providence Valdez Medical Center
Providence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE’s). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies. All our beds are licensed for “swing bed” status of which 1-3 are usually occupied.
