Providence is calling a Medical Technologist (Laboratory Dept, Day Shift, 1.0) at Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska.
This position performs all
clinical tests listed in the laboratory manual with thorough understanding of
Quality Control limits, reporting, etc., and takes an active role in the
responsible operation of the laboratory department. This position requires to be registered as an
MT/MLS with ASCP.
In this position you will:
Provide accurate, timely, and cost effective laboratory testing of patient samples to aid in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Provide technical expertise to Providence Laboratory and other institutions.
Perform technical laboratory procedures according to PAMC, lab, and national standards.
Be responsible for completing records and reports, and other statistical information for master files or database.
Use positive interpersonal skills to educate/support lab customers and promote success of team members.
Comply with lab and hospital safety procedures.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelors Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology or in the chemical or biological sciences
MT or CLS certification from ASCP or NCA or certification within 1 year of hire
Ability to use microscopes in hematology and microbiology

Providence Valdez Medical Center is an 11 bed Critical Access Hospital co-located with a licensed 10 bed Long Term Care facility. Our team of physicians, nurses, therapists, technicians, clinicians and support staff provide quality and compassionate inpatient and outpatient health care to patients and residents. Our state of the art facility, built in 2004, is able to provide a wide array services including acute, emergency, Labor and Delivery, Radiology, Ultrasound, CT Scan, DEXA scan, CLIA certified laboratory, Rehab services including Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies.
The Lab department employs three fulltime technologists, including the Supervisor and one Laboratory Coordinator/processor/phlebotomist. We are required for our licensing to have laboratory services available 24 hours a day, so the techs work together to cover to provide the best schedule for them and the facility. We draw about 15-25 people per day on average. We utilize EPIC as our EMR system, and the LIS system in EPIC is Beaker.
Our lab has the following instruments: for hematology--Beckman-Coulter DXH800, for chemistry-Siemens Dimension ExL200, for coagulation-Siemens Sysmex CA660.
We do basic microbiology—MicroScan for ID and sensitivities. We have a limited blood bank with 8 units on hand and no antibody ID. We do blood draws for all ages for both outpatients and inpatients. We use AAB for proficiency testing and are CLIA certified.
