Providence Technical Program Manager, Regional Energy and Water Conservation Programs in Torrance, California

Providence is calling a Technical Program Manager, Regional Energy and Water Conservation Programs (Full time/Variable shift) to Providence California Regional Services in Torrance, CA.

We are seeking a Technical Program Manager, Regional Energy and Water Conservation Programs who will monitor and improve energy and water efficiency of all acute care ministries (and certain non - acute ministries) within Region(s) at PSJH. They implement conservation measures, monitor energy and water consumption, assess business decisions for sustainability implications and seek out opportunities for increasing energy and water efficiency. The Energy Program Manager will identify projects, build business cases, define ROI, gain approval and identify available capital to complete the work. They work in conjunction with facility engineers / managers, construction project managers and consultants to accomplish the work. Energy Program Managers are held accountable for goal achievement by Region and as a team for the System.

In this position you will:

  • Actively support and incorporate the mission and core values into daily activities. Treat all others with respect and demonstrates excellence, justice and compassion in daily work and relationships with others

  • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other clinical or business information

  • Demonstrate service excellence and positive interpersonal relations in dealing with others, including patients/visitors, caregivers, medical staff, volunteers and community members, so that productivity and positive relations are maximized

  • Audit facilities and systems for energy use and performance. He or she will inspect with local and federal energy laws in mind to ensure they adhere to all regulations. The Energy Manager will also monitor buildings in order to identify areas where energy or water is wasted or energy or water efficiency needs improvement, analyzing utility usage in order to develop conservation projects

  • Create and oversee the implementation of projects and strategies that increase efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and minimize excessive consumption. They also implement energy-related cost-saving measures. Throughout the development process, they calculate the budget, project energy savings, and identify the goals for each project. They work with facility engineering and design / construction teams to craft and implement these measures. They may also participate in the design and renovation of buildings to ensure their energy and water efficiency

  • Through energy audits and the development of energy and water saving strategies, the Energy Manager will work with facility leaders to monitor the utility budgets. This may include calculating current energy costs as well as the potential savings of upcoming projects. The Energy Manager works with data analytics team and vendors to monitor utility reporting

  • Energy managers prepare formal proposals for all new projects, including projected costs, ROI and energy savings. They also submit formal documentation and status updates for all current projects, regular utility consumption data reports and documentation of results for completed projects in a format that insures consistency across the Health System. They may present this information to executive management

  • Energy Managers are leaders who can manage, coach and teach others but are also capable of working independently. They are highly organized individuals who can prioritize tasks and complete multiple simultaneous projects on a deadline. Highly analytical, Energy Managers pay great attention to detail and have strong quantitative abilities. They’re also decision makers and great communicators who can present complex information in a simplified manner

  • Develop and maintain a relationship of trust with caregivers, and senior leaders by:

  • Developing and maintaining effective communications

  • Responding in a timely manner to issues and concerns of staff

  • Providing clear, accurate and timely information to senior leaders, department managers and staff

  • Supporting the free exchange of ideas/information, and implementation of best practices

  • Provide representation and input in the development and implementation of standardized system initiatives to ensure that issues unique to energy and water conservation are understood

  • Actively participate in system wide committees and councils upon request

  • Develop and deliver informational presentations on energy management, sustainability, regulatory compliance, system goals and objectives, status of ministries performance measures, and projects, etc. and speaks in front of small and large audiences as needed

  • Direct the development and implementation of capital budgets for energy program investments

  • Implement Health System construction standards within the context of their work

  • Maintain knowledge of new and emerging technologies and materials

  • Adjust to changing priorities and conditions

  • Maintain current knowledge of codes relevant to system design, construction, and maintenance of healthcare facilities

  • Analyze systems and controls strategies, improve control sequences, and troubleshoots system issues

  • Make recommendations for improving the operation of automated building systems with a focus on energy conservation, occupant comfort and regulatory compliance. Plan, develop and implement control strategies in support of building energy management goals

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Credentialed as professional engineer, energy manager, project manager or related area of expertise

  • 2 years energy conservation project experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong quantitative and technical skills

  • Knowledge of the application of mechanical and electrical systems for ventilation, steam, chilled water, hot water, humidification, power and control systems in buildings (healthcare facilities preferred)

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, flow charts, schematics, ladder diagrams, control sequences, and various software languages/formats

  • Possesses good communication skills

  • Ability to plan, carry out, and document work in an efficient and productive manner with limited supervision

  • Competent in project design, cost development, and project management

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or equivalent technical program or equivalent educ/experience
