Providence Health & Services Regional Director - Physician Business Development in Torrance, California

Description:

Providence is calling for a Regional Director of Physician Business Development for Southern California.

The main office location is planned for Torrance, with part time office space in Anaheim and Mission Hills (potential flexibility around main office location).

General Summary

A cross-functional senior leadership position focused on strategic initiatives, program development, network development, and business analytics. Highly visible position collaborating with key external/internal stakeholders to facilitate the delivery of value-based care. Responsible for taking a leading role in building Providence's high quality, integrated provider network in target markets and emerging new markets. Also responsible for cross-promotion of physicians to drive market share among Providence Medical Foundation affiliates and Providence hospitals.

Key Relationships

This position requires establishment of strong working relationships with physicians, regional and ministry executives and senior leadership, clinical program and business development directors, finance, decision support, information technology, business support and other relevant departments, plus relevant colleagues throughout the California Region, other PH&S Regions and the System Office.

This position must have an ability to work with multiple people towards a common goal including actively engaging physicians in strategic alignment relationships.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies potential physician and medical group alignment opportunities in existing and contiguous geographic markets, evaluating potential structural models that best align with physician(s) and Providence’s strategic interests, negotiating and executing physician transactions.

  • Identifies opportunities to build our primary care and specialty network.

  • Supports the development of our population health strategy in new markets through building a robust primary carenetwork.

  • Directs activities related to physician and market assessment and physician relationship development, particularly focusedon target and new strategic markets.

  • Participates in physician/medical group discussions and coordinating all aspects of the potential physician/medical group relationship inclusive of the physician practice assessment, due diligence process, strategic market and financial analysis, valuation and value analysis, business case and business plan development (may be done in coordination with the Ministry Business Development Directors, Regional Clinical Program Directors and Medical Foundation and Group leadership), internal review and approval processes, and coordinating with the Providence Medical Foundations (PMF) physician operational integration team to ensure a successful and smooth practice transition to Providence. Collaborates with group operational leadership to ensure successful onboarding of new physicians.

  • Working with the managed care operations team, facilitates, negotiates and manages development of all ancillary contracts and ventures (i.e., hospital, freestanding imaging/lab, urgent care, etc.).

  • Directs communications to advance the position and growth of Providence recruitment and contracting opportunities in key markets.

  • Recruits and negotiates contracts with a full continuum of specialty care physicians in the new markets (representing all specialty requirements for a coordinated care network).

  • Understands regional and ministry-specific priorities for physician alignment including support for key strategic initiatives, population health management, clinical program development and growth, disease management, continuum of care development, community needs, Trauma/ED call coverage, succession/transition planning, geographic expansion, market opportunities, etc.

  • Contributes to developing and building strong physician relationships and alignment with Providence through effectively managing all aspects of the physician communication and expectations process, including responsiveness and timeliness of commitments.

  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customer base to gain their trust and respect. Works closely and in collaboration with regional and ministry executives and leaders, PMF and physician group leadership, community physicians, clinical program and business development directors, finance, decision support, legal, and other key stakeholders.

  • Work collaboratively with multiple markets/communities to achieve objectives and priorities.

  • Collaborates with stakeholders on service line development to promote affiliates and generate new physician and directpatient referrals.

  • Partners with the executive management team and other senior leaders to promote a culture of accountability and that allinitiatives align with the strategy.

  • Directs marketing strategies and materials to support cross-referral development efforts.

  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations for physician alignment and recruitment to ensure compliance with all regulatory and PH&S Legal Affairs guidelines.

  • Supports development of other physician alignment strategies and related projects, as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, Marketing, Clinical Science, or related healthcare field.

  • Ten years or more experience in healthcare leadership, including operations, business development, physician/medical group recruitment, acquisitions, integration and/or strategy.

  • Experience with payor/IPA requirements, physician contracting regulations, and planning & program management tools

  • Experience developing successful working relationships with physicians.

  • Experience conducting physician acquisition analyses, preparing business
