We are seeking a Lead Clinical Dietitian who will oversee the Clinical Nutrition Services provided to all patients. Integrate and maintain the therapeutic needs of patients in coordination with the provision of optimal nutritional services. Coordinate nutrition services in conjunction with the Medical Staff, Nursing Staff and other departments. Ensure the quality, safety and appropriateness of services and maintains compliance with all government and regulatory agencies including JCAHO and DHS. Under general supervision, oversees and provides nutritional care to hospital patients. Provide patient care to the following age groups: premature infants, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young, middle and older adults.
In this position you will:
Prioritize and organize workload according to established department guidelines and complete work by the end of the shift
Delegate basic patient nutritional duties to the Clinical Dietitian, Diet Technician and Diet Clerk according to established department guidelines
Assess current nutritional intake status and or needs of all assigned patients appropriately and according to established guidelines
Appropriately develop and implement individualized diet regimes for all assigned patients including:
Clarify inappropriate diet orders
Recommend appropriate diet changes
Recommend appropriate diet instructions
Recommend and or initiates appropriate calorie counts
Oversee all modified diets, update patient cardexes and monitor patient menus and between meal nourishments in the specified time according to policy
Interview all assigned patients/significant others to obtain information regarding food preferences, allergies, eating patterns and nutritional intake problems for assessment and implementation of appropriate diet regimes
Calculate specialized diet regimes, enteral and parenteral feedings and calorie counts with a 98% accuracy rate
Counsel patients and or family members regarding their diet education needs and potential food drug interactions in an effective manner
Inventory and order nutritional supplements and tube feedings
Enter pertinent information accurately in to the automated diet office system
Documentation/Information Management:
Demonstrate working knowledge of the electronic medical record and interdisciplinary documentation component
Perform documentation in the electronic medical record which is concise, accurate and timely according to established policy
Written work is grammatically correct, understandable, complete and appropriate for the intended recipient
Communicate in a clear concise, calm and constructive manner
Maintain the strictest level of confidentiality with all patient and hospital information
Leadership/Supervision:
Ability to be a self starter and work with minimal supervision. Appropriately schedules Clinical Dietitians and Diet Technicians according to approved payroll budget and hospital policies while minimizing overtime
Share on-call responsibility with CNM on weekend and holidays, in the event that a Clinical Dietitian is not available
Assist CNM in ensuring compliance with all departmental policies and procedures
Objectively evaluate employee's work performance as shown by their consistently following job requirements and prior to deadlines
Keep moral high even in the face of changes and transition
Provide adequate job orientation for employees
Provide high quality of services and maintains good productivity and efficiency skills
Instill employee ownership and responsibility of the mission
Development:
Assume responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice. This includes maintaining current registration status
Act as a clinical preceptor, provide feedback and evaluation to interns from various dietetic internship programs
Attend all department staff meetings and inservices while on duty
Conduct in-services as requested
Develop nutritional handouts as requested
Conduct and/or participates in hospital educational events
Attend at least 2 full day (minimum 10 units) dietetic seminars per year
Performance Improvement:
Conduct and participate in assigned Performance Improvement projects including correcting deficiencies identified
Present solutions when presenting problems
Effectively and consistently deals with resistance to change
Budgetary:
Responsible for knowledge of and compliance with budget
Able to schedule employees according to approved payroll budget as shown by the incurment of overtime only when it is absolutely necessary
Evaluate product usage in all areas of service for quality and appropriateness
Consistently swipe in and out for the work day and meal period at the appropriate times
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics or related field.
Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics approved internship or equivalent educ/experience
Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
2 years dietetics experience in a hospital setting
Experience in computers and hand held computers
Requires the ability to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative (service-oriented) working relationship with patients, families, visitors, hospital staff and co-workers
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- 3 years dietetics experience in a hospital setting
