Providence GI Technician I in Torrance, California
Providence is calling a GI Technician I (Part time/Variable shift) at our Providence Little Company Of Mary Torrance Hospital in Torrance , CA.
We are seeking a GI Technician I who will provide care to all patients, including pediatrics, adults and geriatrics by assisting the team during GI procedures. Must demonstrate independence and competence in the duties on a variety of procedures. The GI Technician assists the team in preparing case set-up and equipment during the case assists the physician and clean up thereafter. May take call at night and weekends on a rotational basis to cover any emergencies.

Demonstrate a team approach by participating in in-services, meetings, committees, and hospital activities both internally and externally

Comply with organization – wide nursing and departmental specific policies and procedures, including working knowledge
Actively create an environment of safe deliverer of patient care and functions with a constant awareness of safety issues identified including immediately correcting/reporting any unsafe conditions
Anticipate the needs of the team and assist on the delivery of cases directed by the Registered Nurse
Perform assigned duties and related procedures. Assists team during the GI procedure. Anticipate physicians’ needs, instruments, etc. before needed by the team
Update and maintain physicians’ preference lists. Document new preference lists when none exist
Time management is essential. When not in on a procedure, time must be utilized to support the work flow of the department. Time may be utilized to transport cases, assist co-workers, clean and stock rooms and any other support functions that may occur
Assure that specimen is correctly labeled and the documentation is correct. Verify the specimen with team member. Transport as necessary
Consistently replace supplies and initiate orders of depleted supplies. Restock daily as assigned
Check equipment and reports malfunctions. Practices careful, efficient use of supplies and follow established charge procedure for patient care items
Willingly flexe scheduled work hours in a fair and consistent manner
Report to work on time and follows on-call policy
Demonstrate working knowledge of Hospital Information System. Communicate patient information and change to Patient Care Leader/ RN. Maintain confidentiality of all patient and hospital-related information
Act as a team problem solver by being an active member of unit/staff meetings and other committees
Understand and is responsible to perform within the general scope of practice
Assume responsibility and accountability for own professional growth. Attend staff development activities of department. Participate in in-services and committees, as assigned
Participate in and can articulate department and hospital performance improvement projects
Required qualifications for this position include:
- Current BLS certification
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Recent graduate of accredited Surgical technologist school
Certified Surgical Technologist
1 year experience in GI Lab
