Providence is calling a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)(Full time/Day Shift) to Providence Little Company Of Mary Home Health. This position will see patients in Santa Monica and surrounding areas.
We are seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) who will be responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice and in providing occupational therapy services under the direction of a Registered Occupational Therapist and in accordance with AOTA and state practice acts.The COTA provides patient care to the following age groups: adult and geriatric adult.
In this position you will:
Assess patient responses to occupational therapy intervention in relation to the stated goals on the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
Adapt treatment plan, under the direction of supervising occupational therapists, to meet patient needs.
Intervention and their effects on patient care are documented on a daily basis with type of treatment, date, and time spent indicated.
Provide input to OTR regarding weekly progress notes.
Provide input to OTR regarding discharge summaries.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply therapeutic principles and practices.
Provide interventions consistent with total rehabilitation program objectives.
Skillfully and safely progresses patients through the levels of treatment within the maximum capabilities of the patient.
Develop and maintain effective communication with the patient, family and rehabilitation team members.
Participate in team and family conferences as requested to discuss patient goals, problems and ongoing discharge plans.
Participate in problem solving conflicts, i.e., overlapping responsibilities, scheduling problems.
Consult with other members of the rehabilitation team to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.
Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients; uses praise and other reinforcers to encourage appropriate behavior.
Abide by Providence Health & Services – So CA region Confidentiality Statement as stated on MEDITECH system maintaining complete confidentiality of all patient and hospital-related information.
Perform billing duties accurately and timely.
Document and submit to supervisor all incident reports, and Supervisor Reports within 24 hours.
Participate in the orientation and skill development of team members and contract staff.
Function as a resource to other members of the rehabilitation team and OT staff.
Provide supervision to students, CHHA and volunteers as requested.
Assume responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice; actively pursues growth through affiliation with professional OT associations and participation in a minimum of one continuing education course per year
Attend 75% of all mandatory in-services, business meetings, and departmental meetings
Participate in community education/promotional activities as requested.
Participate in Performance Improvement processes as requested.
Participate in survey preparation activities, i.e., The Joint Commission, DPHS (CA Dept of Public Health Services).
Utilize unit occupational therapy resources appropriately.
Adjust personal schedule in case of unit crisis to meet department need
Uses time effectively and ensures adherence to daily OT patient schedule.
Required qualifications for this position include:
A graduate of an Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
Current license and certification from the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT) and the National Board for the Certification of Occupational Therapists (NBCOT)
Requires a valid driver's license with no excessive violations or accidents
Requires maintaining the minimum state requirements for auto insurance
Must have the ability to learn on the job
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Two (2) years related experience.
Acute hospital experience
