Providence is calling a Telecom Operator – Per Diem to Providence Health & Services in Tarzana, CA.
We are seeking a Telecom Operator – Per Diem to be responsible for handling all in-coming and outgoing calls and utilizing the beeper and paging system under routine and emergency situations in accordance with hospital rules and regulations.
In this position you will:
Report all phone and switchboard problems, activity in emergency controls panel, and elevators out of order to appropriate departments as needed.
Answer incoming calls for the Service Center and dispatch appropriate staff for repairs.
Relay messages over the radio (walkie-talkie); announce "quiet time" at the end of the day.
Know emergency codes/procedures; makes calls to police, fire department, etc.
Know features of phone system, hospital personnel, and department extensions.
Be able to fulfill these various duties without constant direct supervision and must rely upon his/her own judgment to handle certain situations that might arise; maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
Demonstrate willingness & ability to float to areas within their scope of practice as necessary; perform tasks for other departments.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Ability to enunciate and speak clearly over the telephone and paging system.
Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
Verbal ability to converse effectively and to understand orders given under emergency conditions.
Clerical ability to recognize pertinent details in hospital directory and avoiding errors in recording and paging.
Must be willing to work on call as this is a per diem position.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Three (3) months of experience as an operator of a PBX switch-board.
