Providence is calling a Security Officer I (Security, Variable Shift, 1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week) to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital in Spokane, Washington. In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Follow and maintain a working knowledge of current department policies, standard operating procedures, and Spokane Municipal Codes. Enforces Providence Health Care and facility policies such as identification badging, access, loitering, smoking, parking, forbidden articles, weapons, etc.
Patrol assigned area including hospital units, clinics, Providence property and adjacent areas on foot or in a vehicle to deter criminal activity, to detect unauthorized activity and to identify needs for assistance. Monitors radio broadcasts by Dispatch and other officers to provide assistance as needed. Identifies, reports, and responds to suspicious activities.
Accurately complete reports including case/incident reports, accident reports, property slips and others documents in accordance with Security Services policies.
Investigate thefts, shortages and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct; notify appropriate law enforcement agencies and detains suspicious individuals when authorized; participate in subsequent court proceedings as required.
Maintain accountability for valuables/property and forms of evidence.
Use security equipment to detect inappropriate or illegal behaviors. Promptly reports any system malfunctions.
Liaisons with County Medical Examiners, Coroners and Funeral Homes authorizing the release of deceased and their belongings in accordance with regulations and organizational policies.
Liaisons with law enforcement, fire department, emergency medical services, public relations and other PHC stakeholders to ensure appropriate assistance is provided and threats are identified and appropriately communicated.
Provide prompt and effective response to panic buttons and alarms. Respond to emergency Codes per existing procedures.
Respond to requests to address and de-escalate difficult or combative individuals; physically detains, restrains, or disarms individuals as necessary. Escort unruly individuals off premises. Assists with the handling of high security risk patients.
Assist during specific emergencies, including the establishment of a Hospital Command Center as needed.
Attend training sessions and maintains required department certifications. Skilled in the use of security and protective equipment including Expandable Baton, OC/Pepper Spray, Tasers, Cameras, Restraint Devices, etc.
Complete assigned inspections of safety equipment and promptly reports and/or corrects any fire or safety hazards.
Report for duty on time and maintains post assignments at times specified.
Accept direction from the Nursing Service Supervisor in the absence of the Lead Security Officer or Security Supervisor.
Follow Providence Security Operations Center (PSOC) policies and procedures including monitoring and responding to radio traffic, checking in service, and providing timely updates.
Follow Access Control policies and procedures including maintaining visitor documentation. Conduct safety searches of patients, visitors, and belongings consistent with facility search and seizure policies.
Maintain and secure confidentiality of records and medical center information. Comply with HIPAA requirements.
Report to work during emergencies and during inclement weather conditions since security personnel are considered essential staff. Emergency call back may be required and subject to mandatory overtime when required when operationally needed.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
1 year of Law Enforcement/Security/Military or two years of work experience in a healthcare setting, or related college coursework deemed relevant to position
Security Academy, Department Field Training Officer Program, AVADE Levels I, II, & III, OC/Pepper Spray, Baton, CEW/Taser, Handcuffing, CPR/AED and Basic Healthcare Security Training within 90 days of hire
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, History or English
Prior experience in healthcare setting
