Nurse Technician - Ip Rehab Neuro Stroke at St Luke's Rehabilitation Institute

The Nurse Technician is a student currently enrolled in a Nursing program at an accredited school and has completed at least one academic term, which included a clinical component. Functions under the direct supervision of the registered nurse and within the scope of practice that the supervising registered nurse has determined is appropriate based upon the education and skills of the Nurse Technician and as defined by the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). Responsible for providing direct patient care applying current health concepts and assisting with routine or general clinical responsibilities that may contribute directly and indirectly to patient care under the supervision of the charge nurse or other registered nurse. May work up to the documented level of academic competence accomplished in the individual's education program. All employees are expected to be pleasant, respectful and courteous in all interactions with patients, families, staff, and visitors of the Institute, as well as being a positive representative of the hospital at all times.

In this position you will:

  • Participate in all aspects of the nursing care process under the guidance of the registered nurse and within the scope of the nurse technician’s education.

  • Assist in implementation of nursing process to extent allowed by education. Administer and documents basic nursing care including vital signs and observations of signs and symptoms, and reports any reactions or changes in condition to the supervising RN. Participates in patient care conferences.

  • Perform nursing procedures as assigned and as trained, such as bedside testing of blood glucose monitoring, hemoccult screening, specific gravity, urinary catheterization and other treatments and procedures as trained and validated by the approved nursing program and as delegated by the RN.

  • Actively assist in evaluation / updating the patient’s plan of care by reviewing subjective and objective data and accurately documenting the updates on the care plan. Updates the plan of care in collaboration with the RN and other team members.

  • Document accurately, promptly and appropriately according to hospital policy. Utilize hospital electronic medical record systems as trained.

  • Contribute to the assigned unit nursing team, functioning as a member of the unit. Assist patient care staff complete their patient care assignments.

  • Effectively assist in the identification of educational and emotional needs of the patient and / or family.

  • Protect patient and employee confidentiality by promoting professional staff communications. Maintain full knowledge of policy and practices related to confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.

  • Willing, accept projects and work assignments as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned, under the direct supervision of the RN and within scope of nursing technician practice as defined by WAC.

Required qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled and in good standing in an approved nursing program approved by the Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission, Washington State Department of Health; or other state nursing approval body for out of state residents

  • Completed one academic term which includes a clinical medical / surgical rotation

  • Complete a formal generic and on-unit orientation including skills checklist and medication test

  • Current WA State Nursing Technician Registration

  • Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) as certified by the American Heart Association
