Providence is calling a Cook (Food and Nutrition, Evenings, 0.94 FTE, 37.60 hours per week) to Providence Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, Washington. In this position you will:
Accept and support the mission and values of Holy Family Hospital.
Support the Performance Improvement process.
Follow policies related to work attendance and dress code.
Maintain a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors.
Maintain professional responsibilities and development.
Consider individual needs in communication with patients and staff, including ethical, cultural, psychosocial, religious, and age-specific aspects, to include all ages.
Support patient rights and the organization’s code of ethical behavior.
Follow the principles and requirements outlined in the Commitments & Compliance Integrity Program Employee Handbook and any other organizational or departmental materials related to compliance with laws and regulatory requirements.
Independently organizes and completes daily food production.
Prepare food items according to standardized recipes.
Plan a cooking timeline to ensure that food will be ready at specified times.
Prepare modified diet food as needed.
Use a variety of cooking techniques such as baking, roasting, broiling, steaming, grilling, deep-frying, and poaching.
Test food being prepared by taking temperatures and tasting. Properly maintains records as required.
Proper and safe use of knives and slicing machine.
Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, uses sanitary work practices, and maintains proper records of foodborne illness prevention as required.
Prepare food items in an attractive and appetizing manner. Garnishes as required.
Use a variety of commercial kitchen equipment such as blenders, mixers, slicers, ovens, grills, kettles and steamers.
Attend production meetings as required; communicate effectively with all areas of department.
Work on room service line as needed.
Fully understands and constantly practices general food service knowledge.
Practice general food borne illness prevention.
Technical skills for Cooks position:
Ability to correctly use cooking techniques such as baking, roasting, braising, broiling, sautéing, steaming, grilling, frying, poaching, soups, sauces, salads, sandwiches, etc.
Ability to plan a cooking timeline to ensure food is ready at specific times.
Read, adjust, and correctly prepare recopies.
Recognize the correct flavor, temperature, and presentation of food by tasting and temping.
Batch cooking as it relates to food quality, continuous service, and waste.
Possess the technical skills necessary to work all cooks positions.
Cook room service hot line at required pace while minimizing mistakes.
All food broken down and stored properly at the end of shift.
Accurate completion of daily prep. And pull sheets.
Required qualifications for this position include:
H.S. Diploma or GED
Three (3) years high volume healthcare cooking.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Formal culinary training.
