Providence Health & Services Clinical Laboratory Assistant in Spokane, Washington
Providence is calling a Clinical Laboratory Assistant ( Clinical Laboratory Services , Nights, 0.75 FTE) to Providence Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, Washington. In this position you will:
Accept and support the mission and values of Holy Family Hospital
Support the Performance Improvement process
Follow policies related to work attendance and dress code
Maintain a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors
Consider individual needs in communication with and assessment and treatment of patients and staff, including ethical, cultural, psychosocial, religious, and age-specific aspects, to include all ages
Support patient rights and the organization’s code of ethical behavior
Follow the principles and requirements outlined in the Commitments & Compliance Integrity Program Employee Handbook and any other organizational or departmental materials related to compliance with laws and regulatory requirements
Perform the following patient care activities/treatments according to departmental policies, procedures, and protocols:
Venipuncture, including blood cultures and Type & Screens
Capillary puncture (fingerstick, heelstick)
Legal drug/alcohol collections
Perform all patient identification procedures, including Isolation room, according to policies prior to specimen collection
Perform assessment of patients according to policies and procedures to maximize potential for successful specimen collection
Review requisitions for completeness, accession orders into computer, applies bar coded labels, process specimens, distribute specimens to testing areas
Access and distribute, as needed, histology/cytology specimens received when section is not staffed
Sort and distribute outpatient physician reports as needed
Perform restocking of supplies, maintains cleanliness of phlebotomy and processing work areas, and phlebotomy tray. Document cleaning as required by policy
Perform lab outpatient reception and phlebotomy if trained for that function
Answer phones and assist caller in obtaining necessary information, or in placing phone orders for lab service
Periodically clean glassware and glass pipettes according to procedure
Attend all mandatory education programs. Attend or reads minutes of all applicable lab meetings
Read, date and initial all required reading postings
Demonstrate efficient workload management
Demonstrate appropriate judgment and decision making
Required qualifications for this position include:
High school diploma or GED
1 year working experience in a clinical laboratory environment including phlebotomy experience with adults, children, and infants
MA-Phlebotomist state license required or must qualify, apply for and obtain the MA-P license within 3 months of hire
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Technical coursework in clinical laboratory science, phlebotomy, or medical assistance
Experience with clinical tasks similar to those of this position
