POSITION SUMMARY: Nurse Educator / Coordinator

Responsible

for hospital unit based education program planning, development and

implementation. This includes, but is not limited to: validating required

educational needs and competencies for staff; developing training programs and

processes; oversight of preceptorship program; ensuring staff education records

are maintained; and, keeping leadership team informed of staff education needs.

May work in conjunction with Providence Seward Mountain Haven Nurse Educator on

projects, orientation, and education of staff. Able to teach, or arrange courses

that are required for competency (i.e. ACLS, PALS, etc.). Flexibility in

scheduling is required for meeting the educational needs of staff on all shifts.

Hospital Based Work:

1.

Develops

and operationalizes effective methods of educating patient care staff so they

possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes requisite for safe, competent and

effective patient care practice.

2.

Coordinates

competency based orientation programs for new hires/transfers, may work with

Providence Alaska Learning Institute’s (PALI) to facilitate goals.

3.

Collaborates

with other key stakeholders when developing, updating, and maintaining policies

and procedures basing them on most current evidence.

4.

Educator/Facilitator

Assesses

education needs of staff upon hire, or transfer to facility, and on an annual

basis. In collaboration with staff members, develops individualized education

plans for staff.

Monitors

for complete, accurate and up-to-date education records for unit staff. Keeps leadership team informed of staff

progress.

12.

Assists

in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the unit based

educational program.

13.

Performs other

related duties as required.

Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent

Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience)

1. Education : Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.

2. Experience : A minimum of 3 years experience in a clinical

setting.

3. Licensure/Certification :

·

Licensed

as a registered nurse in the state of Alaska.

·

Maintains

mandatory and required certifications.

4. OtherQualifications: Possess teaching

ability. Possess excellent communication

and organization skills. Demonstrate the ability to accept and implement

change. Show evidence of continuing

professional growth; membership in professional nursing organization (in the

area of specialty) is required.

5. Attendance : Regular attendance,

per hospital policy, is a requirement of this position.

6. English Language : Must be able to read,

write, and speak English.
