Providence Health & Services Coding Specialist II in Seward, Alaska
Providence is calling a Coding Specialist I (Business Services, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Seward Medical Center in Seward, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
This is a full time, day shift in our Business Services Dept. New hires may be eligible for a one time sign on bonus of $3000.
In this position you will:
Demonstrate proficiency in accuracy of coding and abstracting and meets defined productivity standards.
Ensure data integrity while performing the coding process.
Assign ICD-9-CM and CPT codes, appropriately sequences principle and secondary diagnoses in accordance with Coding Clinic and Medical Center policy.
Access information systems that capture coding, master patient index, billing, and the electronic medical record information.
Abstract information from patient records using a variety of procedures.
Participate in quality processing and productivity.
Communicate with physicians and other health systems personnel to complete requests for work.
Required qualifications for this position include:
High School diploma or equivalent
Holds at least one of the following coding credentials: Registered Health Information Management Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
1 year hospital coding
1 year clerical experience in office setting with operations of standard office equipment
Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills with customers and co-workers. Demonstrated skills with Windows or similar PC-based applications
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Completion of a coding program
