Providence is calling a Dietary Aide (Transitional Care, Evening, 0.5 FTE) to Providence Mount St. Vincent in Seattle, Washington. The Dining Host follows all relevant policies and procedures in the area of dining services, including neighborhood food preparation and service, honoring resident preferences and maintaining floor stock. Host activities are supervised during the shift by the Neighborhood Coordinator, dietitian, and nurse on duty, and the host reports important resident information to the nurse during the shift.

In this position you will:

  • Promotes and advocates for resident rights: Encourages residents to make choices in daily routines and activities related to dining, including meals, snacks, and drinks. Honors dining preferences as expressed in the care plan (diet card) and verbally by the resident. Protects the dignity of each resident. Maintains confidentiality of resident information. Reports and prevents neglect and abuse and situations where rights are being violated.

  • Functions as an integral part of the neighborhood team: Is knowledgeable of each resident’s relevant health history, health status, strengths, needs and personal preferences. Works with resident and interdisciplinary team to develop scheduling of meals, snacks, and drinks based on resident preferences, past history and lifestyle. Reports changes in resident’s dining preferences and intake to nurse or Neighborhood Coordinator in a consistent and timely manner. Attends and participates in care conferences and shift change report if requested. Participates in development and needed revision of the interdisciplinary care plan with resident and interdisciplinary team, including restorative and rehabilitation care to promote independence. Communicates dining and nutrition concerns to the dietitian or production staff when needed.

  • Provides dining services to residents in a consistent, compassionate manner: Provides meal, snack, and drink service under the direction of the nurse and Dining Services staff, and in accordance with relevant policies and procedures, the PMSV philosophy of resident-directed care, and the individualized resident care plan. Encourages and assists residents with restorative care and rehabilitation related to dining when it is part of the interdisciplinary care plan. Assists resident in meeting emotional, social, and spiritual needs: Serves food attractively, providing individualized service to each resident, takes into account preferences and schedules when planning meal, snack, and drink service. Leads or coordinates activities in collaboration with the Recreation Coordinator, dining services, spiritual care, and ILC staff and volunteers. Spends social time with resident. Prepares specialty items for residents as needed for holidays and special occasions.

  • Maintains primary responsibility for quality and efficiency of neighborhood food service: Picks up and delivers food at mealtimes, and assures quality and availability of items needed for all residents. Maintains hot and cold foods at proper temperatures, and records temperatures according to regulations. Prepares menu alternates, snacks, and drinks as requested by residents, and assures quality and availability of items needed for alternates. Maintains adequate floor supplies for assigned neighborhood without overstocking. Maintains primary responsibility for clean up of food and dishes after meal times. Maintains overall cleanliness and sanitation of neighborhood kitchen and dining areas. Monitors bulk food quantities and works with production staff to minimize food waste.

  • Assists in maintenance of a comfortable and safe environment: Identifies broken or damaged equipment or furniture and requests maintenance and repair. Balances concern for residents’ health and safety with their rights of choice and independence.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • 3 months of customer service experience or dining services experience

  • Food Handler's Permit (or must obtain within 14 days of hire)

Preferred qualification for this position include:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED
