Providence is calling a Pharmacy Technician 2 - Outpatient Retail (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, OR. This position will work M-F starting as early as 8:45am and ending as late as 7:15pm. There will also be a weekend rotation every 3 weeks.

You will have the opportuinty to be cross-trained in inpatient pharmacy as well!

We are seeking a Pharmacy Technician 2 - Outpatient Retail that will perform all typical duties of a retail pharmacy staff technician as defined by the Oregon Board of Pharmacy and local pharmacy drug outlet procedures. Fills physician orders for patient medications under a Registered Pharmacist's supervision. Communicate with and service the needs of the Retail Pharmacy clientèle. Has advanced knowledge and skills in two or more specialty areas in the pharmacy.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Receive new written prescriptions or refill requests from patients and clarify patient and prescriber information

  • Fill prescriptions and place them in baskets with bulk drug bottle used for dispensing verification and final check by pharmacist

  • Accurately input patient demographics, allergy, medical conditions, and billing information and verifies current eligibility for non-electronic billing methods

  • Check reasonableness of billing before inputting prescriptions

  • Assist in maintaining adequate inventory by ordering products as they are used or needed including over the counter medications

  • Restock bins for vials, bottles and jars

  • Check in received orders and do returns to suppliers

  • Maintain current awareness of and complies with the Quality Management programs, including awareness of current monitors and participates as indicated

  • Ensure patients identified by policy are consulted by pharmacist

  • Answer phones in a timely manner and sorts multiple phone calls in a friendly and efficient manner

  • Refer to pharmacist as appropriate

  • Acknowledge customers presence as they reach the counter and help them in a friendly and efficient way

  • Meet customer service excellence standards

  • In addition to Tech 1 duties, Tech 2 has the primary responsibility for one of the following significant additional functions:

  • Provide pharmacy liaison discharge prescription service to the acute care facility

  • Coordinate with nurse managers, nurses, patients, and pharmacy to provide timely discharge medication processing

  • Set expectations with nursing units and patients when prescriptions will be ready for pick up

  • Act as a communication liaison between the units, nurses, and pharmacy, first point of contact for acute care nursing staff

  • Provide special handling of patients and prescriptions as needed

  • Report information to the Pharmacy Manager

  • Multiple location pharmacy buyer for the retail pharmacies

  • Work with wholesaler and vendors to acquire medication at the best price point

  • Ensure products are reordered to minimize acquisitions costs for the pharmacies, achieve the largest gross margin possible and minimize inventory carrying costs

  • Coordinate with the retail pharmacies to minimize impact of medication shortages

  • Ensure prescription acquisition costs, average wholesale prices and other cost data are updated in the pharmacy computer system. Reports information to the Pharmacy Manager.

  • Multiple location merchandiser for the retail pharmacies

  • Ensure over-the-counter/front end of the pharmacy is merchandised to achieve maximum profitability while ensuring products are carried to meet the needs of the customer, employees, and facility to ease the way

  • Ensure the number of 'outs' is minimized and inventory levels are appropriate

  • Work with wholesaler to maximize sale opportunities and advertise the sales to patient via product tags

  • Ensure over-the-counter/front end prices are updated and appropriate in the point-of-sale system

  • Report information to the Pharmacy Manager

  • Multiple location Finance/Billing liaison

  • Ensure all end of the month information is collected, audited, and delivered to the Finance point of contact to achieve accurate accounting and Prov Report information

  • Coordinate with reconciliation services to achieve maximum reimbursement from third party insurance companies

  • Processe all account receivable (AR) for finance for reimbursement

  • Review and audits all AR accounts for accuracy before billing

  • Act as a point of contact for Finance

  • Research unpaid invoices to ensure payment

  • Collect data from multiple sources to provide complete financial information

  • Be responsible for the data in the pharmacy computers system financial

  • Report information to the Pharmacy Manager.

  • Multiple location pharmacy information system liaison

  • Act as the primary liaison between pharmacy and Information Services (IS)

  • Act as the primary person to troubleshoots and correct information services problems

  • Support IS in maintaining and updating systems as needed

  • Communicate issues to the pharmacies in a timely manner

  • Review upgrades, reports them to the Pharmacy Manager, and communicates information to the pharmacy staff to maximize the use of the retail pharmacy systems

  • Report information to the Pharmacy Manager


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Current Oregon Board of Pharmacy Technician license

  • One (1) year of experience (2080 hours) of retail pharmacy practice

  • One (1) year of customer service experience
