Certified Nursing Assistant 2 or Certified Nursing Assistant 1 to the Medical Surgical Unit at Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, OR. This is a full-time (0.9 FTE), night shift position.

We are seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant 2 (CNA2) or Certified Nursing Assistant 1 (CNA1) – Intensive Care Unit who will be responsible for performing direct patient care services related to activities of daily living and for auxiliary support as related to nursing unit functioning. An employee responsible for patient care must be competent in the assessment, treatment, and age-related care. Consequently, the employee must be competent in the interpretation of a patient's self-report or behavior, and this information must be interpreted with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional/psychosocial and chronological maturation process. The treatment of patients should be individualized and should reflect an understanding of the developmental needs and range of treatment needs for each.

As a Certified Nursing Assistant 1 you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Operates safely within the authorized duties and standards for a CNA1 as defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.

  • Delivers kind, gentle, respectful, safe care.

  • Follows directions from RN by:

  • Providing care and assisting patients according to established standards, policies and procedures and scope of practice.

  • Assisting RN with admissions, discharges and transfers.

  • Reporting to RN any observations about special care needs that need to be included in the care plan.

  • Observes and reports patient changes to RN promptly. Observes patient as directed.

  • Promptly reports unusual occurrences to RN.

  • Responds promptly to patient needs and requests.

  • Maintains strict confidentiality and privacy for patient/family.

  • Communicates accurately and with sensitivity, as perceived by patient and/or family.

  • Cooperates with Charge Nurse to maintain a positive work atmosphere and cohesive unit

  • Contributes to a spirit of teamwork with co-workers:

  • Offers support/help to team members.

  • Asks for and accepts help when needed.

  • Gives positive feedback to team members.

  • Demonstrates a willingness to pursue conflict resolution.

  • Documentation of attendance on Education Record of nine or more units or NSA meetings per year.

  • Limits communication of personal information to breaks/mealtime, away from patient area.

  • Assists and cooperates with instructors, students, and orientation of new personnel.

  • Maintains competency:

  • Assumes responsibility for own continuing education including documentation.

  • Practices within the authorized duties and standards for a CNA1 and at the direction of the Charge Nurse and the assigned RN.

As a Certified Nursing Assistant 2 you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patients, as directed by the Registered or Licensed Practical Nurses

  • Ensure that safe and effective patient care is rendered within the assigned areas of responsibility

  • Communicate all pertinent patient and unit data to the primary nurse or the charge nurse

  • Interact effectively with other members of the health care team, i.e., PT, RT, etc. to provide coordinated patient care

  • Demonstrate correct use of equipment required to perform necessary job functions

  • Demonstrate awareness of the impact of self on others and the ability to respond appropriately

  • Understand and adhere to proper channels of communication

  • Participate in quality management programs and utilizes findings to improve patient care

  • Attend a minimum of 75% of all staff meetings

  • Demonstrate reliability and flexibility through low absenteeism and responding to hospital needs during periods of high and low census

  • Plan and utilize daily assignment, with the direction of Registered or Licensed Practical Nurse, to assure coordinated, safe, and accurate provision of patient care

  • Communicate with nurse having primary patient responsibility positive and negative responses to care rendered

  • Assist other staff members as needed

  • Follow dress code consistently


Required qualifications a Certified Nursing Assistant 1 include:

  • Current Oregon state licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant is required

  • Current BLS certification

Required qualifications a Certified Nursing Assistant 2 include:

  • Completion of Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) recognized Acute Care CNA 2 course -OR- Grandfathered to CNA 2 per OSBN requirements

  • Active and unencumbered license in the state of Oregon as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

  • Must attain their certification to practice as a CNA 2 in the state of Oregon within nine (9) months of hire

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • One (1) year experience in nursing home or hospital experience

  • One (1) year experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant 2 (CNA 2)
