Providence is calling a Registrar for Full-Time Evening Shift to Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CA
We are seeking a Registrar t o be responsible for securing appropriate patient account reimbursement by obtaining complex demographic, insurance and medical information and ensuring this is documented timely and accurately.

KEY CHALLENGES

Consistently provide superior customer service that meets or exceeds the expectations of patients, visitors, physicians and PH&S staff, including during periods of high patient volumes or stressful situations.
Perform independently while multitasking, problem solving, and exercising good time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
In this position you will:
Assess patient ability to complete the admission process prior to receiving services or going to their hospital rooms, ensuring patients are registered in a timely manner, accounts are complete, compliant, and billable and do not require rework or intervention
Request, collect and document co-pays from patients effectively and efficiently within EMTALA guidelines where applies; present ABN’s and ensure signatures are obtained
Provide armbands in a timely manner and verify all information on the armband with patient to ensure accuracy; escort and/or direct patient appropriately once registration completed
Secure patient's valuables in accordance with PH&S procedures, providing appropriate validation documentation and storing valuables in safe as needed; return valuables to patients at discharge and complete valuables log
Ensure all relevant documentation is scanned and order entry tasks are completed timely and accurately; process in-house patient work queues timely and accurately
Ensure forms are filled in promptly and accurately for worker comp/labor and industries patients and follow through with patients for signature and completion
Maintain accurate, clear, concise, and complete account notes and other relevant information; closely adhere to set schedules and handle time standards
Courteously and professionally responding to multiple phone calls and requests that often occur simultaneously
Collaborate with other departments such as surgical services OR manager, front desk supervisors, service line supervisors, and other supervisory personnel regarding scheduling, resource or staffing conflicts
Ensure all computer system entries are completed accurately and timely
Maintain accurate, clear, concise, and complete account notes and other relevant information
Promote PH&S as a premier service organization by treating customers with compassion and respect
Identify, resolve and escalate major issues and service failures that impede success
Maintain confidentiality of all patients’ demographic, medical, and financial information, ensuring proper handling and disposal of confidential documents and adherence to HIPAA
Comply with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and requirements as well as PH&S policies and procedures in all aspects of job performance
Required to think independently and to identify and make complex decisions in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
Demonstrated outstanding customer service experience
1 year experience in a hospital or medical office setting
Clerical and computer experience
Organizing and planning experience
Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations; compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and requirements
Confidentiality of all patient demographic, medical, and financial information, ensuring proper handling and disposal of confidential documents and adherence to HIPAA
Ability to establish priorities, organize work, be detail oriented and follow through, particularly due to the impact to the patient if duties are not performed in a timely and accurate manner
Ability to identify and solve complex problems
Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively with interruptions
Ability to be patient, caring and understanding in dealing with patients who may be upset, confused or difficult
Ability to learn quickly, as technology requirements change
Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions
Demonstrated service excellence with patients, families, sponsors, caregivers and team members
Proven effective and respectful face-to-face, telephone and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Some college level course work
College level course work, particularly Medical Terminology or Medical Assistant coursework
Registrar and third party payor experience
Basic knowledge of insurance and managed care payors, healthcare registration, Medicare Secondary Payor, EMTALA and ABN
Knowledge of CPT and ICD9 coding and medical terminology
Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) or Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS)
