We are seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant who will will implement Occupational Therapy Services for patients under the direction and supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OTR). These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, direct patient care, documentation and other departmental responsibilities. The COTA is required to implement policies and procedures related to the delivery of Occupational Therapy Services. The COTA may be required to treat any patient from adolescent to geriatric. They will demonstrate proficiency in delivering care to assigned age-specific patient populations.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate's Degree in Accredited COTA program.

  • Current BLS certificate through the American Heart Association.

  • Valid COTA license.

  • Ability to deal effectively with many people across a broad range of cultural backgrounds and ages.

  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Attends meetings as required.

  • Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel/students.

  • Adheres to AOTA code of ethics and corporate compliance standards.

  • Implements and maintains established company, hospital, department and unit policies, procedures and objectives as well as quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control policies.

  • Proficient in P.C. software applications including, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

  • Ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate work.

  • Ability to work effectively with many people at various levels of the organization.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and appropriately prioritize.

  • Ability to clearly communicate with internal and external customers, including, but not limited to, patients, co-workers, management, physicians, and visitors.

  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance to hospital policy.

  • Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.

  • Inspects work area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and standards, and takes corrective action when violations occur.

  • Will be responsible for the safe and therapeutic operation of all occupational therapy equipment.

  • Effectively communicates the benefits of therapeutic intervention to patients in understandable terms.

  • Demonstrates comprehension of indications and contraindications of all department modalities/procedures.

  • Will seek help/instruction/training if not familiar with any procedure, methods or modalities.

  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, professional affiliations, current literature, in-services, workshops, and other appropriate opportunities.

  • Responds to request for service by relaying information and referral to OTR.

  • Contributes to the patient’s assessment under supervision of an OTR.

  • Maintains communication with an OTR regarding the patient’s response to treatment, progress and recommendations for adjustment to treatment plan/termination of treatment.

  • Has a thorough understanding of the patient’s diagnosis, precautions, and treatment plan prior to initiating contact with the patient.

  • Monitors patient’s response to treatment and modifies treatment during sessions as indicated under the direction of an Occupational Therapist.

  • Documentation – Daily documentation is done in a clear, concise and organized manner. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Active in patient/family/attendant education and documents appropriately. Accurately completes all required supplemental documentation in a timely manner.

  • Recording of treatments - Provides accurate information of services rendered for billing purposes. Provides necessary information to keep tracking tools accurate and up to date.
