Providence Health & Services Principal Software Asset Management Analyst in Renton, Washington


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling Principal Software Asset Management Analyst to our location in Renton WA, Anaheim CA or Portland OR.

We are seeking a Principal Asset Management Software Analyst to provide expertise concerning software license models and software asset management best practices. This position is accountable for software utilization and compliance data.

As subject matter expert (SME), oversees software license utilization, compliance monitoring, and licensing true-ups for controlled software. In addition, the SME supports the IT Contracting team during vendor negotiations. The SME also oversees ad hoc reporting and software audits. The SME is responsible to escalate and lead effort to troubleshoot chronic Software Asset Management (SAM) repository related issues. The SME is a key link between the SAM repository application and business needs of key SAM stakeholders. The SME is also the link between our key software vendors and key SAM stakeholders.

In addition, the SME is responsible for researching and advising on potential software licensing opportunities for the enterprise in support of the Strategic Plan; Enterprise accountabilities include: to define business requirements for SAM repository, to conduct product research and assessment in support of onboarding new software, and to stay abreast of industry trends and any potential impact to Providence. Responsible to maintain the Approved/Preferred Software list. Provides advisory services to various business units on how software licensing impacts projects and operations

Performs all duties in a manner that promotes Providence mission, values, and philosophy. Serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide subject matter expertise for one to two major software publishers and up to 5 smaller publishers.

  • Assist as needed with software vendor contracts

  • Work with business functions to build, execute and manage remediation as it relates to software compliance (i.e. decommissioning, disposal and reclamation of assets from systems)

  • Evaluate SAM tool system design, provides requirements for functionality.

  • Align license capacity with initial needs, expected growth, and enterprise experience from similar implementations

  • Establish SAM processes and procedures.

  • Provide technical guidance to ensure that SAM systems are working effectively and that proposed systems will meet organization’s future needs.

  • Provide peer review and consulting services for license implications

  • Provide input into improving SAM information reporting and metrics.

  • Create and maintain internal training materials to provide training to appropriate information systems staff for procedures, processes and knowledge transfer.


Required qualification for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business or equivalent education/experience.

  • 8 years SAM related experience, with a Bachelor's degree, OR

  • 10 years of SAM related experience without a degree.

Preferred qualification for this position includes:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science

  • CSAM, ASM or ESM nice to have

  • CITAM, ITIL nice to have
