Providence Health & Services Population Health - Chief of Staff/Director in Renton, Washington


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling for a Chief of Staff/Director of Population Health to be located in Renton, Washington.

The Chief of Staff / Director serves the EVP of Population Health enabling her to fulfill her professional commitments and the evolving needs of Providence St. Joseph Health. This position is accountable for managing a variety of projects, developing and tracking division metrics, developing content and materials for division publications, and enhancing the productivity of the EVP. Projects and daily activities will vary in size, scope and complexity requiring the Chief of Staff / Director to be a strategic partner who is resourceful, self-motivated with strong emotional intelligence, analytical, and communication skills. The successful candidate must be able to perform all duties in a manner that promotes the mission, vision, and values of Providence, St. Joseph Health, a faith-based not-for-profit health and social services system. In all aspects, the Chief of Staff / Director serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization and will be responsible for representing the EVP and the organization with key internal and external stakeholders.

This position reports to the EVP Population Health and will be expected to work collaboratively with the Population Health leadership team and across all areas of the organization in order to ensure successful implementation of core initiatives and projects.

In addition, specific focus areas will include:

Communication Support:

  • Develop, construct, and write content for Division publications for broad distribution that highlights the work of the EVP and the Division.

  • Work with the EVP to create presentations and meeting materials for executive level briefings, public forums, and national meetings.

  • Create project plans, business plans, and required reports on strategic priorities intended to guide critical business decisions, facilitate dialogue, and track or report on key initiatives.

  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in support of project analysis and daily operations.

  • Draft communications on behalf of EVP using a diversity of media, including social media, visual media, webinars, face-to-face and virtual presentations. Work with leaders within

  • Division and across organization to gather data and conduct research to complete reports, presentations, white papers, board documents, and other working documents.

Leadership Support:

  • Provide support to Population Health team members on special projects by collecting data, preparing correspondence or reports, and facilitating the development of solutions.

  • Travel with or on behalf of the EVP when required to support a project or initiative.

  • Coordinate projects meetings, team meetings or other convening as needed by the EVP in collaboration with the EVP’s executive assistant.

  • Provide independent leadership of designated projects aimed at improving the visibility of the Division of Population Health and the productivity of the EVP and her team.

  • Manage confidential and time sensitive issues with integrity

  • Proactively identify issues that may impact the successful execution of key initiatives, strategies, or program plans: Elevate issues that arise and require EVP’s immediate attention.

  • Provide support to the EVP of Population Health on special projects by making preparations for and managing external stakeholder conferences and collaboratives. This includes collecting data, preparing correspondence or reports, and facilitating the development of solutions.

  • Travel with or on behalf of the EVP when required to support a project or initiative.

  • Partnerships with external entities include national and regional industry associations, health care policy leaders, other health systems, nonprofit organizations and advisory councils.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant discipline.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in health services or health care related field

  • Position requires 5-7 years of experience with demonstrated experience as project manager, team leader or facilitator with strong communication skills.

  • Experience managing complex, strategic projects using proven project management/strategic planning methods and software.

  • Experience designing, writing, and constructing presentations and publications at an executive level.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master’s degree preferred in a health related field preferred, i.e. healthcare administration, public health, health informatics, population health, or health economics.

  • Specialized training in project management, communications, and/or business development preferred.
