Providence Executive Director, Software Engineering in Redmond, Washington

THE ROLE

The newly formed Administrative Technology Team at Providence is building a new division from scratch. We are looking to hire a software leader for the HR onboarding space. They will own all the solutions for HR. Will have a dotted line of reports from our division in India as well as direct reports in Redmond and other locations in our 7 state region.

This is a key Software Engineering leadership role for the Admin Technology IS vertical at PSJH. As such, it will have scope across one to two business domains that fall within Administrative Technologies, like: Human Resources, Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, and other non-clinical shared services. The scope is both broad, across one to two of the business units and programmatic, in terms of managing the technical software delivery of one to two businesses to create a quality, predictable and reliable solutions. This role is both enterprise in nature and startup in mindset because we are creating and building this IS division from the ground floor. This role will work in a fast past environment, constant demands for better engineering solutions, and will require strong problem resolution, decision making, communication and partnering skills. It requires a combination of business functional knowledge, user advocacy and technical software solutions proficiency. This role requires someone to be both a leader and teacher as we bring in cutting edge connected experience mindset and skill set to the organization. It requires a leader to deal with high degrees of ambiguity and drive clear strategy and technical solutions, while bringing the business, fellow IS organizations and a team of Software Engineering leaders along the path to success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Executive Director, Software Engineering will:

  • Influence the division-wide caregiver and business themes for the solution/service portfolio, and lead his or her group to define a solution/service vision and its position in the marketplace.

  • Lead the group to design solution/services that deliver the expected value to the caregiver/partner, and business objectives to PSJH.

  • Ensure that the solution/service vision and designs are iterable and well-positioned for successive releases.

  • Anticipate industry and market trends, advise business leaders on new solutions, and consistently define successful solution/services that succeed in the marketplace.

  • Guide the creation of conceptual models for new solutions and the future solution direction that incorporate market, technology, and business trends.

  • Advise business leaders on needed capabilities and technologies, and how to build or acquire them to realize the future solution vision, over multiple releases.

  • Use a cross-service perspective to lead the planning and design of a service delivery solution that defines tools, hardware, processes, role assignments, dependencies, and documentation, resulting in a complete solution that delivers manageable, supportable, performance, resilient services that meet KPIs.

  • Promote a culture of quality and ensure that the standards of the Engineering teams (including PM, Development, and Test) are consistent with the overall service objectives.

  • Optimize or transform the engineering lifecycle for the solution/service or division to achieve significant engineering system improvements that enable caregiver and business goals.

  • Drive new ways of thinking, across the division, to improve quality, engineering solutions, and responsiveness to feedback and changing priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required education/experience for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably Master’s degree in one of the following disciplines: Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering.

  • 10-12 years of related experience - IT or commercial software engineering, solution architecture, technical program management - all at enterprise scale and complexity.

  • 10-12 years of leadership experience, leading experience or software engineering or technical teams in a complex and fast moving environment.

  • A sense of pride, commitment, and personal accountability for the end-to-end solution or service quality, completeness and resulting user experience for the life of the solution or service.

  • Ability to use the solution or service regularly to understand it thoroughly and discover ways to improve it.

  • Ability to resolve issues throughout the life of the solution or service, including those outside of his or her area of responsibility as needed; opens discussions with peers to take action when needed to ensure the success of the solution.

  • Ability to build a diverse team with capabilities needed to achieve current and future business objectives. Balancing the development of existing employees while bringing in new external and internal talent. Creating an inclusive work environment where every employee can effectively engage, and wants to be part of the team. Providing ongoing feedback that helps your direct reports improve their performance.
