Providence Health & Services Security Engineer 2 in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Security Engineer 2 to Providence Health & Services in Oregon, Washington, Montana, Alaska or California.

We are seeking a Security Engineer 2 to be responsible for researching, evaluating, and designing technical security solutions for the enterprise in support of the Strategic Security Plan; providing technical security assessment support; as well as providing technical security collaboration and guidance within a Region of Providence Health & Services. Enterprise accountabilities include executing security engineering practices for Enterprise Security projects; conduct product research and participate in the selection process of technologies to support security requirements; establish technical security guidance for PH&S; and conduct technical security assessments.

In this position you will:

  • Plan, research, and handle technical design for security solutions in support of strategic security plan.

  • Provide technical security configuration guidance to regional and enterprise information systems teams for implementation.

  • Perform and/or oversee vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and security assessments in support of risk management and audit activities.

  • Provide input into improving information security reporting and metrics.

  • Establish configuration policies for security technologies.

  • Provide Tier 3 support to SOC to assist in recovering from security breaches; participate in investigation and remediation of security incidents.

  • Establish security engineering processes and procedures and conduct staff training on these procedures and processes.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience, or continuous experience at a senior level from another It discipline.

  • 5-8 years of IT technical experience AND 2-4 years of continuous information security experience.

  • Functional knowledge designing security solutions for the TCP/IP protocol suite, LAN/WAN technologies, switching, routing, VoIP and Telephony technologies, firewalls and VPN, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), vulnerability assessment and patch management tools.

  • Functional knowledge designing security solutions for Unix, Linux, Apple and Windows technologies.

  • Functional knowledge operating protocol analyzers and analyzing output.

Preferred Qualifications for this position include:

  • Working knowledge of the security issues/concerns that impact the healthcare industry and related technologies that can address these security concerns.

  • Functional experience performing monitoring, analysis and recovery procedures or security technologies.

  • Ability to comprehend software release notes, plan, communicate to clients, and schedule the successful implementation of these upgrades.

  • Knowledge of the principles of project management.

  • Functional experience designing security controls and countermeasures for operating systems, databases, applications, Web services, user devices, and wireless networks.

  • Functional experience operating open-source and proprietary vulnerability scanners.

  • Working knowledge of the security issues/concerns that impact the healthcare industry and related technologies that can address these security concerns.

  • General knowledge of IT Audit techniques.

  • Active CISSP, SCCP, SANS or equivalents.
