Providence Health & Services RN Navigator - Bariatric Surgery in Portland, Oregon
Providence is calling a RN Navigator - Bariatric Surgery Program (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Office Park in Portland, OR.
Providence is launching a comprehensive weight management program that offers medically supervised weight management, lifestyle coaching and in some instances Bariatric Surgery for individuals with a higher Body Mass Index (BMI).
This brand new RN Navigator was created to develop and launch the bariatric surgery program, be an integral part of the care team, and ultimately lead us to become an accredited Center of Excellence. This patient-facing position will be instrumental in helping identify and triage candidates for bariatric surgery and help them navigate their way through the process.
If you are a Registered Nurse with an “entrepreneurial spirit” and are excited by the prospect of building a new program from the ground up, while still having patient interaction, this position is for you! A successful candidate will be highly collaborative yet comfortable working independently. Nurses with previous experience in weight management or bariatric surgery will be strongly considered.
Typically Monday through Friday, business hours, with the occasional need to participate in evening informational sessions

In this position, you will:
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary care team to develop and continually refine patient care pathways and protocols
Navigate patients through the process, including administering nursing assessment and care plan development as needed in coordination with the surgeon and care team members
Assist in care coordination and scheduling activities required pre-operatively and post-operatively
Prepare for and lead prospective and retrospective multidisciplinary case conferences
Lead the process to achieve and maintain Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) Center of Excellence Accreditation
Participate in designing and conducting information sessions for prospective patients
Work with Medical Director and staff to anticipate and identify the needs of the center and implement solutions to problems
Provide quality oversight for the program by working in collaboration with the care team and data registrar to review outcomes data, lead quality improvement initiatives, and develop appropriate staff education materials
Continuously work towards improved quadruple aim outcomes of the program: quality, patient experience, affordability, and caregiver engagement
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Unencumbered professional licensure in Nursing in the State of Oregon
Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN) credential within 3 years of hire
Experience and training in quality improvement
Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary care team. Experience developing multi-disciplinary service lines and programs
Experience as a project team leader
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Masters of Science in Nursing
2 years of experience in the areas of bariatric and weight management
