Providence Regional Director of Patient Safety and Risk Management in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling for a Regional Director of Patient Safety and Risk Management in Portland, OR.

We are seeking a Regional Director ofPatient Safety and Risk Management that will be responsible for collaboratively leading and coordinating a just culture of high reliability and learning.

The Director provides day to day operation leadership and oversight of a regional patient safety program to improve patient safety and reduce clinical risk.

This position serves as liaison to external agencies, such as the Joint Commission, Oregon Health Authority, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Oregon Patient Safety Commission.

The position requires expertise in developing long-range plans, including the establishment of linkages with the ambulatory clinical services division, Providence Medical Group, clinical program division and the Providence Health Plan.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide direction and oversight of regional and enterprise-wide patient safety initiatives and outcomes, including the high reliability organization (HRO) transition

  • Foster and role model the development of a Just Culture that values both individual and system accountability

  • Lead the implementation of safety programs across the Oregon region

  • Assist regional ministry leaders in the development of effective departmental patient safety

  • Manage and facilitates all aspects of adverse events and, in collaboration with the PH&S System Director of Patient Safety, continues development of a proactive patient safety program

  • Oversees the investigation of sentinel events with the appropriate groups

  • Oversee the preparation of Root Cause Analyses and assists in assuring the tracking and follow-up of corrective and preventive actions

  • Maintain a leadership role in the development of an institutional culture of patient safety and non-punitive reporting of adverse events

  • Demonstrate understanding and utilization of tones, tools and behaviors that promote patient safety in a highly reliable organization


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

  • Current, unencumbered Oregon state RN license

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in nursing with five (5) years in acute care setting

  • Five (5) years of experience in progressive leadership and management roles

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

  • Planning and budgeting skills

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Business, Business or Healthcare Administration, or enrolled in a masters level program
