Providence Health & Services Oncology Nurse Navigator in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Oncology Nurse Navigator to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

Come join our wonderful team of 6 Oncology Nurse Navigator's and make a difference with an individual patient's whole continuum of care. This position will be a patient facing role in support of GI Cancer Navigation and will be leading the efforts to achieve and qualify for NAPRC Certification.

As an Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) you are responsible for initiating contact with newly diagnosed cancer patients within our assigned areas of responsibility; assessing the patient’s barriers to successfully completing their cancer treatment in a timely manner. The ONN will be involved from the point of initial diagnosis through active treatment as needed, facilitating the patient’s transition to survivorship care, palliative care or hospice.

In this position, you will:

  • Serve as a consistent resource throughout the continuum of cancer care.

  • Be knowledgeable on the multiple treatment decisions, strong emotions andfinancial impact of a cancer diagnosis.

  • Triage the physical,psychological and social needs of the patient and significant others, offeringintervention and /or referrals as needed.

  • Have primary goals that include:

  • enable patients with information and education thus reducing a portion of thestress involved in a cancer diagnosis,

  • empower the patient to participate intheir personal care process,

  • improve understanding of their decisions andtreatment plans;

  • complete the treatment though the point of survivorshipplanning.


Required q ualifications for this position include:

  • Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Oregon

  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) within 2 years of hire date

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • 3 years of oncology experience

Preferred q ualifications for this position include:

  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)

  • Case management or Clinical Trial Nurse experience
