Providence Health & Services Mental Health Therapist - Adult Inpatient in Portland, Oregon
Providence is calling an On Call Mental Health Therapist (0.0 FTE) to our Adult Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit at the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR.
This position is located in an inpatient setting where patients can be protected while stabilizing medications and other treatments take effect. Our treatment programs help people develop management and coping skills to deal with emotional crises or destructive behaviors. We evaluate the use of medications to help stabilize thought processes, and we provide group support for families, patients and other friends. Our inpatient treatment team treats a wide variety of mental and substance use disorders with safe and compassionate care.
We are looking for an experienced compassionate individual with a flexible schedule to join the adult inpatient treatment team to provide both individual and group therapy.
Our Mental Health Therapists are in the unit 7 days a week during the days and into the evenings. On calls will be typically scheduled in advance to cover planned time off for the other caregivers on the team. On occasion, our on call caregivers may receive short notice requests for coverage but are not obligated to provide coverage.
In this position, you will:
Be responsible for providing clinically therapeutic programs and treatment in the inpatient mental health units.
Be responsible for providing various modalities of care, individual therapy, and treatment intervention with patients as agreed upon by the treatment team while under the supervision of the clinical supervisor and in collaboration with the patients Registered Nurse.
Use education and training to assist in stabilizing and treating patients during their stay on the unit.
Provide feedback and input to the team regarding assessment of the patients strengths, capacities, and responsiveness to the treatment.
Assist in discharge planning and interventions to support rapid stabilization and movement of the patient back into the community while working in conjunction with the team.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Must have one of the following:
Graduate degree in psychology, social work, or other mental health related field and licensed in a professional discipline or be working toward licensure to be completed within 2 years of hire
Licensed in the state of Oregon as a Psychiatric Mental Health Registered Nurse with a Master’s of Science in Nursing
Graduate degree in recreational therapy and have or be working towards National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), with an expectation of completion within 2 years of hire
Therapist with a graduate degree in the creative / expressive arts and be currently registered or eligible for registration within 2 years of hire
Bachelor’s prepared state certified alcohol and drug counselor
State of Oregon licensed occupational therapist and practice within discipline standards while adhering to the State of Oregon Board standards for Occupational Therapy
Knowledge and capacity to provide therapeutic solution-focused treatment to this population and in an acute care setting
Documented education, experience, and competence in identifying precipitating events; gathering histories of mental and physical disabilities, alcohol and drug use, past mental health services and criminal justice contacts; assess family, social, and work relationships, conduct a mental status assessment; document a DSM diagnosis; write and supervise a rehabilitation plan; and provide individual, family, and/or group therapy.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA-BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification prior to hire and the able to re-certify every 2 years
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
1 year of experience in an inpatient mental health setting
Licensure from appropriate professional association / licensing board
