Providence Health & Services Lab Assistant 2 - Histology in Portland, Oregon
Providence is calling a Lab Assistant 2 (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.
The schedule for this position is Tuesday - Saturday 8am - 4:30pm.
In this position, you will:
Be responsible for the accurate and timely receiving, processing, and labeling of laboratory specimens, and the appropriate handling and/or disbursement of laboratory data and patient results.
Work with acute-care and outpatient caregivers, vendors, consultants, and other Laboratory Services staff in performing their duty.
Be responsible for registering outpatient laboratory encounters obtaining complex demographic, insurance, and medical information utilizing multiple computer applications in order to complete patient encounters.
Maintain up to date knowledge and competency on required registration functions.
Be expected to perform all duties in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects the Providence Health System mission, philosophy, and core values of respect, compassion, justice, excellence and stewardship.
Required qualifications for this position include:
High school diploma or equivalent
2 years of healthcare or related field experience, -or- a combination of applicable experience and education
Clerical or client services experience
Demonstrated outstanding Service Excellence experience
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computer applications
Phlebotomy will be required in float pool and some ministries
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
2 years of college experience, -or- Associate degree/ Bachelor of Science degree with courses in biological sciences, anatomy, and medical terminology
Certification from a Clinical Laboratory Assistant Program, -or- a Phlebotomy program with 1 year of phlebotomy related experience, -or- 3 years related experience
Certification from an approved government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (ASCP, NCA, etc.)
2 years of Phlebotomy, medical assisting, research, clinical laboratory experience, or certification
Industry related experience in a high volume, acute care setting
Experience in specimen collection, specimen preparation and equipment operation, pneumatic tubes systems and other laboratory equipment
Knowledge of specimen handling and collection requirements, general laboratory workflow and basic medical terminology, Biology, understanding of Laboratory Medicine, anatomy and physiology, or equivalent exposure to these topics
