Providence Health & Services Financial Counselor - Clinic in Portland, Oregon
Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Financial Counselor to our location in Portland, OR.
We are seeking a Financial Counselor who will screen in-house and discharged patients for any government programs to include Medicaid and SSI. Collect patient information to submit Medicaid and SSI applications to the State. Perform in-room and telephone collections to help resolve prior and current account balances. Assist patients in filling out financial assistance applications. Perform customer service for walk-ins who are needing information, make payments and ask for financial assistance applications.
All information is gathered while adhering to regulation and compliance requirements and guideslines and is documented timely and accurately.
The incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes the PJSH mission, values, and philosophy. In all aspects, the incumbent serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organizations.
In this position you will:
Strives to collect payment in full.
Counsels patients for suitable payment arrangements.
Assists patients with any financial related question and offers financial assistance as needed.
Screens patients for potential Medicaid coverage and/or SSI.
Monitors inpatient days utilized for Medicaid and Medicare patients due to benefit periods.
Handles customer complaints in an effective manner.
Identify and alert a member of the management staff of any situation that may negatively impact the well being of the patient, department operations, public relations, or the hospital's integrity.
Required qualifications for this position include:
High School Diploma or GED.
1 year customer Service experience.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Associate Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration.
Coursework/Training: Some college level coursework, in Medical Terminology or Medical Assistant or equivalent education/experience.
Third party follow-up, government follow-up, patient collections, account resolution, billing, and/or cash applications.
2 years patient accounting experience in a physician office, hospital, or medical collections.
Medical Business Office experience in a physician office or hospital.
1 year knowledge of Epic applications.
BLS - Basic Life Support upon hire.
