Providence Electromyographic Technician - Neurological Specialties in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Electromyography Technician - Neurological Specialties West (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Saint Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR.

We are seeking for a Electromyographic Technician - Neurological Specialties West who will use specialized diagnostic equipment to record and evaluate the electrical activity of nerves and muscles using non-invasive electrical stimulation. Collect and prepare all information pertinent to the interpretation of the results for the physician to assist them in diagnosing diseases, injuries and abnormalities.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Explain the NCS test procedure to the patient to obtain the patient’s cooperation necessary for a complete examination

  • Check the patient’s electronic medical records with particular attention to patients with pacemakers, defibrillators and neurotransmitters

  • Prepare patient, warming limbs and applying a variety of surface electrodes

  • Accurately obtains common NCSs; distinguishes between normal and abnormal results; describes all abnormal clinical manifestations observed during the test; and recognize physiological and non-physiological artifacts and takes appropriate steps to eliminate.

  • Maintain the patient warming equipment (e.g. Hydrocollator)

  • Prepare Procedure room for each patient

  • Maintain the EMG equipment in working order including but not limited to: checking calibrations, detecting and reporting instrument malfunctions, detecting and resolving current leakage, making maintenance adjustments and repairs, and working with the equipment manufacturer and/or IS to address software issues

  • Perform the appropriate calibration procedure on the EDX instrument for standard recordings

  • Manipulate instrument controls, including filter and sensitivity settings, for optimal recording of electrical responses

  • Manage laboratory schedule and workload in conjunction with physician electomyographer

  • Assist the physician in the performance of the more complex specialized procedures

  • Assist the physician in the performance of the more complex specialized procedures

  • Conduct inventory to ensure that necessary supplies are always on hand

  • Restock exam rooms on a daily basis ensuring the supplies are in the appropriate drawers.


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Associate's Degree in Health Care

  • Successful completion of a CAAHEP-accredited neuro-diagnostic program

  • One (1) year experience in related field

  • RNCST -OR - CNCT -OR- eligibility for certification within one (1) year

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers required at time of hire from American Heart Association (AHA) -OR- Military Training Network (MTN)
