Providence Health & Services Child Life Specialist in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a temporary Child Life Specialist (0.9 FTE, Days) to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR.

Our Certified Child Life Specialists (CCLS) are professionals who are specially trained to help children of all ages and their families understand and cope with illness, injury, treatment, hospitalization and the overall health care experience.

We are looking for a Child Life Specialist to join our team temporarily to primarily support our patients and families in our inpatient pediatric unit. The temporary assignment may be up to 6 months with no set end date currently. This position is considered exempt with salary based pay and will be scheduled 4 days a week for 36 hours per week. Days of the week are flexible and can be discussed further in the interview.

In this position, you will:

  • Empower children for life’s challenges while providing high quality family-centered care as a part of a strong multidisciplinary team.

  • Provide psychosocial and developmental based assessment and support to both patients and their families.

  • Plan and provide emotionally and developmentally appropriate care that promotes effective coping with health care and continued cognitive and emotional growth.

  • Enhance the quality of patient care through participation, documentation and communication with other members of the health care team.

  • Serve as a resource and advocate on child development issues.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor Degree in Child Life or closely related field

  • Child Life Specialist; certification within 6 months of hire

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year of work experience as a certified Child Life Specialist
