Providence Health & Services Assistant Vice President, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Portland, Oregon



Providence is calling an Assistant Vice President, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine (AVP / OSM) in Clinical Program Services in Irvine, CA, Renton, WA, or Portland, OR.

In this position you will have enterpise wide accountability to:

  • Provide executive guidance and leadership to the activities of the enterprise Orthopedics and sports Medicine Institute.

  • Be accountable for assessing, planning, developing and implementing strategies and tactics to achieve clinical standardization in resource use, evidence based or consensus based best practices and innovation across the scale of the enterprise.

  • Be expected to have expertise to lead organizational strategy with the result of implementation of the OSM Institute.

  • Develop and execute clinical business plans and an institute development model, including operational strategies that respond to unique market factors such as size, demographics, competitor knowledge, brand and targeted patient expectations.

  • Be expected to be an innovator who has demonstrated ability to create a strategic plans and communicate it throughout the enterprise.

  • Be expected to have proven skills of a matrix organization leader to be successful in the creation and spread of this work.

  • Be required to have a working knowledge of patient care and experience working with clinicians, preferably in service line leadership, as your responsibilities will span the Providence Health & Services facilities throughout all regions.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Seven (7) plus years’ work experience in healthcare or a comparable background with significant clinical/program leadership experience

  • Comparable background/experience to include:

  • Experience in healthcare operations leadership

  • Experience working with clinicians standardizing complex disparate process, addressing resource use variation and change management processes

  • Demonstrated ability to create and execute clinical strategic plans

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent
