Providence Health & Services Student Coordinator Radiology - Part Time, Day Shift *8K Hiring Bonus* in Oregon City, Oregon

We are seeking a Student Coordinator Radiology who will perform imaging examinations according to physicians' orders, utilizing a variety of sophisticated imaging equipment, taking into account individual patient's special or age-related needs. Utilizes knowledge and judgment in regard to imaging factors, imaging technique and patient treatment needed to produce optimal images. Performs all examinations with minimal radiation exposure to patient and operator

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide quality images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of all equipment:

  • Alway provides high-quality images by performing examinations in all general diagnostic areas. This include conducting exams at the bedside for critically ill and immobile patients using portable equipment

  • Competently operate radiology equipment, determine and set imaging factors utilizing all relevant factors to ensure accurate and quality images with minimal and acceptable repeat rates. Consistently produce images of proper diagnostic quality by manipulating the equipment properly, using proper collimation and appropriate techniques

  • Alway provide for safe radiological operations by adhering to radiation protection standards. Use lead shielding in accordance with policy. Understand and use appropriate x-ray techniques to provide high-quality imaging, while keeping exposure to patient and operator as low as possible

  • Present images and related pertinent patient information to physician for diagnosis

  • Assist physicians with invasive procedures

  • Troubleshoot equipment and informs lead/manager of need for outside repair

  • Stock examination rooms with supplies. Notify appropriate personnel for reordering needs. Drug trays and code cart is maintained as required by JCAHO standards.

  • Function as part of the rotational "on-call" staff providing timely, high-quality radiology services after normal working hours

  • Gather complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to all customers

  • Routinely prepare examinations for interpretation to include: correct identification and processing of images, adequate clinical history, proper charging and data entry functions and appropriate previous images for comparison

  • Review patients' chart and order to ensure correct examination

  • Label images completely with demographic, position and other needed documentation

  • Complete all pertinent documentation including charge sheets, history forms, worksheets and any other necessary paperwork

  • Provide for patient care and safety using professional judgment in accordance with policies and procedures

  • Identify patient by checking patient’s full name and medical record number according to department procedure

  • Thoroughly explain the procedure about to be performed in order to facilitate cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety. Shows concern for patient comfort while obtaining the desired images as ordered by a physician

  • Provide respect for patient modesty by proper transportation of patients on and off tables and sees that patients are properly clothed and covered during the examination

  • Maintain awareness of patient status and takes appropriate actions to meet their needs

  • Communicate and use knowledge of related anatomy and physiology to ensure appropriate and effective care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients

  • Alway evaluate patients for signs of allergic reactions following administration of contrast media, as well as completing the appropriate contrast consent forms

  • Alway provide for safe operations by adhering to appropriate radiation protection guidelines

  • Practice professional communication, appearance, conduct, punctuality, attendance and attitude that reinforces physician, patient and coworker respect and confidence

  • Maintain appropriate certification and professional expertise through continuing education

  • Maintain Professional Portfolio as required by HR policy. Assumes responsibility for mandatory inservice education on an annual basis

  • Assist in the department orientation program with new hire technologists and regularly assumes responsibility for student clinical education.

  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to assist others, assists in clerical and transportation duties when necessary. Always uses time to the best advantage of the department

  • Use professional judgment and presents a professional image of competency to customers and staff

  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with written policies and procedures.

  • Manage stressful situations in a manner that promotes positive outcomes

  • Communicate pertinent clinical information to patients and/or family member only with the direct instruction from a physician (e.g. radiologist).

  • Regularly attend required meetings. Actively participate to accomplish positive goals and objectives of the department

  • Attend student meetings

  • Respond and demonstrates flexibility to changes in the work schedule as determined by the staffing and patient load

  • Interview prospective students and makes selections for hospital program

  • Coordinate student rotations, content of rotations and maintains requisite records

  • Evaluate student performance, counsels students in both job performance and behavior standards, determines final grades for clinical rotations

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Current American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R) certification

  • Current Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) as an RTR

  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification

  • Three (3) years experience as an RTR.
