Providence Health & Services Mental Health Specialist - Inpatient Child/Adolescent in Oregon City, Oregon


Providence is calling an on call Mental Health Specialist to the Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Unit (CAPU) at our Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center in Oregon City, OR.

Our Mental Health Specialists are integral members of the interdisciplinary team that consists of Psychiatrists, Mental Health Therapists, Social Workers, Nurses and more. In collaboration with the treatment team, the Mental Health Specialists works with the children and adolescents on meeting their treatment plan goals through group co-facilitation and milieu support.

We have Mental Health Specialist in the unit 24/7. Our on call Mental Health Specialists are primarily scheduled in advance and may receive some short notice request for coverage but are not obligated to be available. The preferred availability at this time includes evenings and weekends.

In this position, you will:

  • Work with other members of inpatient unit staff to provide patient care in avariety of job duties.

  • Work under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN), the MentalHealth Professional Therapist, or the inpatient unit Manager or Director.

  • Provide hospital level and focused patient care, support, and milieumanagement for patients with behavioral health conditions and illness.

  • Observe and report onpatient conditions under the direction of an RN or other designated clinical staff.

  • Be responsible for and/or support the daily and varioustherapeutic activities care of the patients.

  • Collaborate with themulti-disciplinary treatment team in the initial developing and modification oftreatment care plans both during the admission process, and during thein-patient hospitalization.

  • Be responsible to act inaccordance with our Mission and Core Values and work to consider our guidingprinciples of: "Know Me, Care for Me and Ease My Way" with each patient.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in social science fields (Social Work, Sociology, Psychologyor other related field)

  • 2 years in an acute orresidential inpatient psychiatric facility in a similar role (Applicable internship or practicum experience may be applied towards requiredyears of experience)

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA-BLS) Provider certification. Re-certificationrequired every 2 years

  • Strong written and verbal communication,organization, and problem solving skills

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Experience in a child or adolescent psychiatric environment
