Providence Health & Services Switchboard Operator - Pbx Operations in Olympia, Washington


Providence is calling a Telephone Operator (0.8 FTE/32 hours per week, Evening Shift) to PBX Operations at Providence St Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA.

The Switchboard Operator position is responsible for answering the hospitals main lines, responding to the customer, and processing the call in the most efficient and expedient manner; for public address paging, remote pager paging, radio paging, inputting physician messages, providing customers with physician contact information, monitoring and responding to all hospital/campus alarms and emergency procedures, documenting and maintaining files of all communications materials. The position contacts cath-lab on-call staff for emergency medical procedures, contacts on-call bio med, maintenance, spiritual care, and administration staff, and processes all calls and messages to SSIP physicians.

In this position you will:

  • Appropriately answer incoming and in-house calls. Process physician messages, access patient information. Radio dispatches security, maintenance, & plant engineer. Perform multiple tasks.

  • Process calls and sends and records all messages to the SSIP Hospitalists. Act as call center for SSIP Group.

  • Monitor and respond to all hospital/campus alarms and emergency procedures. Respond appropriately to overhead and remote paging. Document expirations, alarms, team calls, and emergency procedures.

  • Produce, update, audit, and edit all logs, forms, reference materials, team procedures, and employee directories. Order supplies and forms.

  • Demonstrate ability to work and communicate with patients, managers and clients of various ages’ groups.


Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Two (2) years of experience operating a switchboard.

  • Experience in a medical environment.
