We are seeking a Coord Trauma

Assists the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Program Medical Director to monitor, and coordinate all aspects of the Trauma Service. Responsible for clinical data abstraction from the medical records of trauma patients for the purposes of data submissions, injury research, epidemiology, and quality improvement. Assists in the coordination and delivery of trauma education for all clinicians involved in the care of the trauma patient, including EMS, Emergency, Acute Care and Rehabilitation as appropriate in the Southwest Region. Assists in the delivery and coordination of trauma care for patients throughout their hospitalization.

In this position you will:

• Clinical Practice:

• Identifies patients appropriate for placement on the trauma log/input into the registry.

• Provides concurrent review of trauma care as described in the Trauma Quality Improvement Plan and responsible for initial screening of charts against quality assurance filters.

• Identifies system, nursing and medical QI concerns and makes appropriate QI referrals for review.

• Participates in the care of the trauma patient in the emergency center by responding to trauma activations and serving as a resource for staff.

• Assist in the preparation for the State of Washington designation process.

• Conducts clinical rounds on a select number of trauma patients throughout their hospitalization helping to ensure patients receive appropriate, coordinated care.

• Quality & Performance Improvement:

• Assists in identifying opportunities for improvement through concurrent and retrospective patient follow up, discussion with medical and clinical staff.

• Maintains current knowledge of external and internal quality indicators and standards.

• Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of a quality plan which is multidisciplinary and patient outcome focused.

• Reports to the Trauma Program Manager any identified quality issues throughout the trauma program.

• Monitors issues or concerns related to sentinel events, deaths, transfers, complications, hospital length of stay, adherence to protocols, and variances.

• Identifies system, nursing and medical QI concerns and makes appropriate QI referrals for review.

• Assists Trauma Program Manager in preparing for the Multidisciplinary Trauma Committee, Quality Assurance & M&M meetings. Accurately records meeting minutes.

• Participates in EMS in-service, Medic-One ops, and other meetings as requested.

• Assists with medical record data abstraction for the Trauma Registry.

• Conduct validation of data entered into the trauma registry.

• Complete transfer letters.

• Professional Behavior and Patient Advocacy:

• Collaborates with healthcare professionals in providing continuity of care to trauma patients and families from admission through discharge and rehabilitation; including rounding on admitted trauma patients.

• Education and Outreach:

• Assists in developing and implementing educational programs for staff based on identification of staff learning needs.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications this position include:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree Nursing from an accredited program.

License/Certification:

• Licensure in Washington as a Registered Nurse is required.

• AHA-BLS required.

• AHA-ACLS required.

• PALS or ENPC required.

• TNCC required.

Experience:

3 years Emergency experience within a health care organization.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

Education:

Coursework/Training ICD-9, Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) scoring course.

Coursework/Training American Trauma Society Basic Trauma Registrar course.

Coursework/Training American Trauma Society Advanced Trauma Registrar course.

License/Certification:

• Licensure in Washington as a Registered Nurse is required.

• AHA-BLS required.

• AHA-ACLS required.

• PALS or ENPC required.

• TNCC required.

Experience:

Recent experience in Emergency, Critical Care, or Trauma nursing.

Experience with collector software and the Washington State Trauma Registry.

Experience with chart audits.
