Providence Health & Services Registered Nurse (RN) - Community Based - Community Care Center in Olympia, Washington

Providence is calling for an Registered Nurse (RN) - Community Based (1.0 FTE, Days) to work in Community Care Center at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA.

The community/outreach RN is based out of the Providence community care center and works in partnership with the City of Olympia's Crisis Response Unit (CRU) to meet the intertwined medical and behavioral health needs of street dependent individuals in crisis.

In this position you will:

  • Demonstrate responsibility for ongoing patient assessment:

  • Within the framework of established plan of care determines the extent and frequency of assessment

  • Independently, collects and documents routine assessment data used to modify and adjust plans of care

  • Communicate relevant assessment data to RN and/or Provider

  • Seek guidance from Provider or RN for assessment and reassessment issues

  • Incorporate knowledge of growth and development into care

  • Collect and processes specimens to include blood samples, urine, feces, wound cultures and sputum samples:

  • Collect samples using hospital standard policies and procedures for phlebotomy through peripheral venous access

  • Label accurately, transports samples in a timely manner and reports problems and concerns to the Nurse

  • Utilize bar code scanning process as appropriate

  • Complete point of care testing and quality checks (i.e. urine dip, glucometer, beta HCG) following standard policies and procedures

  • Perform basic wound care:

  • Demonstrate the ability to clean and irrigate simple to moderately complex wounds

  • Set up suture trays, assists MD/PA/ARNP with suturing, cleans and dresses wounds

  • Demonstrate correct technique for compressive dressings

  • Participate in planning for psychiatric emergencies: de-escalation, risk assessment, triage

  • Maintain responsibility for professional growth:

  • Maintain records of continuing education

  • Participate in unit based and hospital dictated required education

  • Demonstrate initiative for deficiencies in education and acts to correct them

  • Promote unit within the institution and community:

  • Seek opportunities to promote improved patient care through participating in clinical process improvement projects

  • Promote improved unit processes through participation in problem solving session, unit based staff meetings, committee work, (hospital, community, or unit based) and positive and constructive feedback

  • Promote health relationships with other departments, outside agencies and other community members through behaviors consistent with core values

  • Provide competent care appropriate to the patient population:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient’s status

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the primary population of patients served in the department

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nurse Program

  • Current Washington State Licensure as a Registered Nurse

  • Completion of an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Class (ACLS) within six (6) months of hire

  • Participation in a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) class within twelve (12) months of hire and throughout employment as a Registered Nurse

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred qualification for this position include:

  • Experience working with unhoused individuals experiencing mental health and/or SUD challenges
