We are seeking a Medical Technologist I

The position is responsible for professional Medical Technologist bench duties within the laboratory, for the assigned section(s). The position performs routine and complex tests in any of these potential sections (as assigned): hematology/coag/UA, chemistry, microbiology, and immunohematology. The position has responsibility for planning, performing and evaluating laboratory testing analysis; and establishing and/or maintaining communications with physicians, patients, other hospital personnel, professional associations, and other organizations.

In this position you will:

o This position performs all duties in a manner that promotes team concepts and reflects the Providence Health & Services mission, philosophy, and core values. Actions will reflect the service area behavior standards which are driven by the core values.


o 1) Technical Requirements

o a) Performs and evaluates laboratory testing and analysis.

o i) evaluates and responds appropriately to any sample integrity issues;

o ii) monitors instrument performance;

o iii) performs analysis in a timely manner, per the priority of the order;

o iv) assesses results properly, based on gender/age of patient;

o v) reports results interpretations to clients, following SOP's for test result documentation.

o vi) Maintains currency with all competency and assigned SOP review for the section(s) assigned.

o b) Coordinates and performs data entry and related LIS operations.

o i) overseeing patient order/cancellation;

o ii) troubleshooting LIS related functions.

o c) Performs instrument maintenance according to protocol

o i) Identifies and troubleshoots any instrument problems

o d) Performs Quality Control procedures and related tasks.

o i) Documents according to SOP

o ii) Identifies and responds to any QC that is not as expected

o e) Complies with facility and unit specific infection control, risk management and OSHA guidelines and procedures.

o i) Is familiar with use of PPE and uses properly, per SOP

o ii) Completes all required yearly HealthStream education in a timely manner (including, but not limited to: fire and electrical safety, compliance, workplace violence, SDS, security)

o f) Willingly contributes to teamwork within the workgroup

o i) Responds to questions from other staff or caregivers about test procedures and/or alternatives and reporting test results and exceptions.

o ii) Maintains expected workflow (turnaround) for testing at the bench assigned

o iii) Assists others as workload allows

o 2) Performs other duties as assigned

o a) May be requested to assist in orientation of new employees

o b) May be asked to participate in a special project

o i) Follows guidelines at time of assignment, and prioritizes workload to ensure timely completion of assignment.


Required qualifications this position include:


Bachelor's Degree Science, Medical Technology or related field. Or

Coursework/Training achieved MLT status through an accredited MLT school, and subsequent completion of requirements to sit for MLS exam.


o American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) or National Certification Agency (NCA)-Clinical Laboratory within 6 month of hire.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:



o American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) or National Certification Agency (NCA)-Clinical Laboratory within 6 month of hire.


Previous experience in Clinical Laboratory setting.
