Providence Health & Services Enterostomal Therapy Nurse - Enterostomal Clinic in Olympia, Washington
Providence is calling an Enterostomal Therapy Nurse (0.25 FTE, Day Shift) to the Enterostomal Clinic at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA.
We are seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Enterostomal Therapy Nurse who is dedicated to providing nursing care to a diverse group of patients.
In this position you will:
EDUCATION: Responsible and serves as a primary patient educator to patients undergoing ostomy surgery. Responsible for assessing patients’ learning abilities and determines discharge goals. Actively provides ostomy/wound/incontinence education and documents learner’s response. Responsible and serves as a resource person for patients who have had previous ostomy surgery in the acute care setting and ambulatory care setting. Responsible for providing services in cooperation with the Hospital Education Resources Department. This includes participation in orientation programs and/or skills labs for RNs, LPNs, PCPs, and NACs. Responsible for providing in-service programs as needed for nursing and medical staff related to Enterostomal Therapy. Responsible for maintaining the level of competency and currency in ET (WOC) Nursing. Annually attends a national or regional conference pertinent to ET area of practice. Attends a minimum of 15 contact hours per year in education related to Enterostomal Therapy. Responsible for being familiar with the stages of growth and development, as well as the normal signs of aging, and provides age appropriate care. Responsible for coordination and implementation of pressure ulcer prevalence studies. • Communication skills. • Knowledge and skill in identifying and prioritizing issues that need resolution within the scope of the position. Copes with expected job pressures associated with change. • Knowledge and skill in demonstrating competency in adjusting the delivery of care and/or clinical technique appropriate to age. • Knowledge and skill in educating nursing units on stock changes and upgrades to the ostomy/wound care manuals. • Demonstrate initiative to participate in project and team functions and expand knowledge of the areas served. • Demonstrates an ability to work with others to accomplish objectives and achieve expected results. Supports and encourages others within the organization. Ability to learn and use available resources. • Knowledge and demonstration of time requirements of assigned responsibilities and meets attendance standards. • Demonstrate ability to copy, collate, and distribute information. • Knowledge of and ability to use video and electronic equipment used in Ostomy/Wound care teaching. • Knowledge of staging pressure ulcers and compilation of data for analysis.
CONSULTANT: Responsible and serves as a consultant in the management of patients with draining wounds or fistulas. Responsible and serves as a consultant for the management of patients with altered skin integrity. Responsible and serves as a consultant for the management of patients with altered continence. Responsible for developing relationships with staff to enhance their use of consultation services to improve follow-up of treatment plans, reassessments of patient responses, and satisfactory patient outcomes. • Knowledge and skill in identifying customer needs and delivers quality and timely solutions that meet these needs. • Knowledge and skill in working to understand others on the team and is a cooperative team member. • Willingly assists others or performs related jobs. • Willingly shares information and knowledge. • Demonstrate initiative to network with Ostomy Support Group(s), The American Cancer Society, and other support/information entities. • Demonstrates Customer service behavior. Keeps others informed of relevant matters.
Registered Nurse licensed by the Washington State Board of Nursing.
Bachelor of Science degree in nursing or equivalent.
Two (2) plus years' Medical/Surgical Clinical experiences in an acute care setting with a special interest in Enterostomal Therapy.
Graduate from an approved Enterostomal Therapy Education Program with current Board Certification in Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing.
Current Board Certification in Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing; if not currently Board Certified, must complete a certification program within nine (9) months of hire and become certified.
