Providence is calling a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (1.0 FTE/40 hours per week, Days) to work in the Rehabilitation at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant will be responsible for the occupational therapy treatment to patients, inservice education and assisting the Occupational Therapist. The position is also responsible for communication with patients, physicians, nurses and other personnel regarding patient care, for operating occupational therapy equipment, and performing assistance in projects and duties with the department.
In this position you will:
Provide initial patient evaluation in accordance to physician request in order to initiate appropriate treatment, which is reasonable in the terms of accepted practice and necessary to recovery of function for the appropriate age groups:
Utilized department forms and protocol. Utilizes age appropriate knowledge to determine treatment plan. When necessary seeks additional information from MD, other staff, and family. Evaluation shall include; history, chief complaint, examination and recommendation for treatment.
Incorporate knowledge of the principles of growth and development into care and treatment provided.
Provide Occupational Treatment and operates Physical equipment as directed by Occupational Therapist to patients as related to age considerations:
Demonstrate to ability to performs:
Mobilization (if appropriate)
Applies knowledge of growth and development in activities
Communicate verbally and written with therapist, co-workers, families, patients, nursing personnel and physicians regarding patient response to treatment:
Keep therapist informed of patient response to treatment in order to adjust, plan, and update goals, re-assess or discharge
Comply with Practice Act pertaining to OTA patient cares, and need for Occupational Therapy re-assessment
Provide therapist suggestion for treatment when appropriate
Document patient progress toward goal
Communicate patient response to treatment to physicians, and other care givers
Complete daily patient reports, billing, schedules and flow sheets and care plans to remain compliant with department, hospital and state regulations
Rely on therapist to direct and delegate patient treatment
Assure therapist reassess patient at least every 5th visit. IF patients are seen more than once daily reassessments are performed at least every 5th day
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant Program usually an associate’s degree
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS)
