Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Manager, this role complete pulmonary function testing and all related testing, as ordered by SJHH providers and outside providers in the community. Ensures reports are distributed to the referring providers timely. Adheres to and complies with all policies, procedures and regulations as set forth by SJHH.
Essential Functions:
Perform and complete pulmonary function testing, consistent with department policies and procedures utilizing all medications and devices safely and accurately (i.e., exercise oximetry, 6-minute walk testing, Spirometry and DLCO testing) as ordered by the providers within SJHH and throughout the community. Gathers previous studies for comparison. Ensures provider order is obtained for all testing performed
Provide complete and thorough documentation, ensuring reading provider performs interpretation in a timely manner. Ensures that reports are scanned into EMR and that reports are sent to outside providers in a timely manner
Be responsible for daily calibration of equipment: gas analyzers, mass flow sensor and body box. Responsible for monthly calibration check: DLCO, body box leak test, FRC
Maintain Viasys 6200 Body Box (CPFT equipment), as well as MA Spirometers to ensure they are in proper working order for best results
Be responsible for ordering all supplies needed to perform CPFT testing, etc. and ordering disposable flow transducers (mouthpieces) used by the MA's when performing Spirometry
Communicate with the PFT Lab Director to keep apprised of the departments' status
Manage same-day testing requests and urgent testing work-ins
Be responsible for generating monthly CPFT log for distribution to the PFT Lab Director and the Office Manager
Educate patients, family and healthcare team on pertinent aspects of respiratory care
Skills :
Basic computer skills including typing and data entry required
Possess a high level of customer services skills with a genuine caring approach to helping people
Ability to work in a fast-paced department and handle multiple tasks, work with interruptions, and deal effectively with confidential information
Ability to work under general supervision
Possess strong written and verbal communications skills to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
Ability to exercises critical thinking skills in an environment which may include varying, unpredictable and crisis circumstances
Possess strong decision-making abilities
Knowledgeable in pulmonary function testing a plus
Minimum Position Requirements:
Education : Graduate of a State approved Respiratory Therapy program.
Experience : Experience in an acute care or ambulatory care setting.
Licenses/Certifications:
California Respiratory Care Practitioner License
Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (PALS)
