Providence Health & Services Director, Laboratory Services in Mission Viejo, California
Under the general direction of the Vice President of Clinical Excellence/Operations and in conjunction with the department Medical Director, the Administrative Director plans, develops and coordinates the activities of Pathology Department and Clinical Laboratory Services. The Administrative Director is directly responsible for the management of all services related to the clinical laboratory and pathology and for patient and customer satisfaction. The Laboratory Director is responsible for the overall operation, leadership, direction, and administration of the Clinical Laboratory in accordance with Federal Regulations governing clinical laboratories.
Reviews Charge Description Master and procedure codes and is responsible for the processing, billing and charging of all laboratory testing.
Responsible for quality assurance and quality control programs related to each laboratory cost center. This includes CAP & AAB Proficiency Testing programs, competency assessment of all staff, and active quality assurance program implementation, audit, and follow-up, including Laboratory and Point-of-Care Testing.
Responsible for laboratory accreditation and licensing, including CAP, COLA, JCAHO and AABB, CLIA and California Department of Health Services.
Assumes overall responsibility for the Laboratory Information System.
Addresses complaints regarding laboratory functions and works with laboratory management team to resolve them.
Develops short and long-range plans and objectives for the department in support of the hospital strategic plan.
Maintains established hospital and department policies, procedures, and objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control; compliance with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
Responsible for development and implementation of Laboratory and Pathology OHSA Safety and CMS/Medicare Compliance Plans and programs.

Bachelor’s degree in appropriate scientific field.
5 years experience as a manager or director in a clinical laboratory in acute care setting.
Valid State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
Preferred Position Requirements:
Master’s degree in Hospital Management or Business Administration in order to maximize effectiveness in direction of the Laboratory.
Registered member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
