We are seeking a Speech Pathologist who will evaluate patients of all ages regarding the application of a wide variety of therapeutic techniques for rehabilitation of speech, language, swallowing, and oral-motor disorders. Demonstrate proficiency in delivering care to assigned age-specific patient population (e.g. infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics).
In this position you will:
Identify, assess, and provide treatment for communication, cognition, and swallowing function and their disorders
Assess and adapt the patient's environment with regard to privacy, safety, cultural and religious practices, age, physical and/or cognitive limitations, and language barriers
Demonstrate ability to perform patient and employee safety standards appropriate to the department’s scope of care. The speech pathologist demonstrate competencies in fire training, patient and employee safety, personal protective equipment, safe transfers, hazardous materials, disaster, evacuation, incident reports, infection control, and administrative policies and procedures. SLP demonstrate willingness to report medical/health care errors, opinions and needs as well as perceptions of risks to patients and suggestions for improving patient safety, and behavior management
The speech pathologist is responsible for completion of annual updates, staff competency assessment, continuing education requirements, CPR certification, continuing education, and licensure
Increase the patient's family's/caregiver's understanding of the patient's deficits and therapy options, encourage family participation in the decision-making process, and provide appropriate access to available community resources
Provide preventative services, in-services, and consultation, when appropriate, to patients, family/caregivers, staff, and the community
Develop appointment schedules to have the maximum feasible therapeutic impact on the patient
Identify patient/client needs and develops quality programs to meet those needs. Ensure delivery of quality services for inpatients/outpatients
Attend patient care staffing, conferences and other related meetings
Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, improving organization performance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards, per hospital, JACHO, local, state, federal, and ASHA guidelines
Maintain professional affiliations and enhances professional growth and development to keep abreast of latest trends in rehabilitation services
Maintain timely departmental reports, records, and files as required, per hospital, JACHO, local, state, federal, ASHA guidelines
Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, professional affiliations, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops
Regular full-time/part-time staff is responsible for participating in the Rehabilitation Services student program
Regular full-time/part-time staff may have the following accountabilities assigned:
Drive vehicle/hospital van to transport patients to and from the hospital for home evaluations and community integration activities
The following accountabilities for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) may be assigned:
Participate in NICU case conferences and discharge planning activities. Coordinate with a California Children's Services (CCS) Case Manager for referral to a CCS-Paneled provider or CCS Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) for patients who may continue to require speech language pathology services after hospital discharge
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders
Current BLS-HCP – Basic Life Support - for Healthcare Providers - American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer accepted on hire until card expiration date
Current License/registration by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board of California/Department of Consumer Affairs
1 year Providing Speech and Language Services
Knowledge of clinical interventions/equipment necessary to meet needs of patients served
Good clinical skills
Good communication skills
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
