Providence Health & Services Manager Clinical Pharmacy in Mission Hills, California


Providence is calling a Full time, Day shift Manager Clinical Pharmacy to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, CA.

We are seeking a Manager Clinical Pharmacy who is responsible for comprehensive clinical pharmacy services. This position is responsible clinical pharmacy staff development and management and assists the Director of Pharmacy in developing clinical pharmacy services goals and objectives. Develops and assures pharmacist professional standards and ensures the delivery of safe, effective and accountable clinical pharmacy services. Works closely with the medical staff and site leaders to set the operational and clinical goals for pharmacy services and ensures that established policies for clinical programs and associated distributive functions are being adhered to by the staff. Additional responsibilities include establishing and participating in the education and training of residents, provision of drug information, drug use evaluation and usage indicators, adverse drug reaction program, establishing drug therapy guidelines, medication management quality improvement and investigational drug protocols. This position reports to the Director of Pharmacy Services.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and positive interpersonal relationships with physicians, staff, and patients/families (1,2)

  • Lead and manage clinical pharmacists and resident pharmacists (1,2,3,4,5)

  • Participate in key decisions makings on recruitment and retention of clinical staff and provides input on annual personnel evaluations of clinical pharmacy staff (1,2,3,4,5)

  • Coordinate rounds with physicians to identify patients for therapeutic monitoring and potential interventions (1,2,3)

  • Coordinate ongoing quality assessments and improvements of clinical pharmacy activities in collaboration with physicians and nursing and implements necessary actions as appropriate (1,2,3)

  • Coordinate comprehensive pharmacy services to patients, including drug therapy assessment based upon evaluation and interpretation of patient history, age, medical condition, surgical history and objective physical biochemical data; development of therapeutic goals and endpoints of drug regimen; preparation of discharge orders and patient education within scope of practice (1,2,3)

  • Coordinate and provide education and competency assessment program to pharmacy staff to develop clinically trained staff, ensuring safe, legal, and effective drug distribution and use; maintain department competency files in accordance with regulatory requirements (1,2,)

  • Assist in the coordination of Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee activities including Drug Use Evaluation and Adverse Drug Reaction program, and drug products/class evaluation (1,2,)

  • Develop, implement and evaluate programs, or area services and initiatives. Leads development of practice standards and measurable outcomes based on performance evaluation and research (1,2)

  • Assist in the provision of effective and accurate drug information services to physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other clinical patient care providers (1,2,3,4,5)

  • Implement and maintain pharmacy training/educational rotations, including externs, interns and residents (1,3,4,5)

  • Coordinate ongoing quality assessments and improvements of clinical pharmacy activities in collaboration with physicians and implements necessary action as appropriate (1,2,3)

  • Prepare clear and concise clinical briefs for use by nurses, medical staff and pharmacy staff (1,2,34,5)

  • Serve as a drug information resource person to physicians, patients and other health care staff. Promote evidence based therapeutics. (1,2,3)

  • Serve as a resource to the clinical pharmacists for the provision of pharmacy services. (1,2,3,4,5)

  • Act as a liaison and consults with nursing and medical staff concerning prescribing, transcribing, dispensing, administration/monitoring of medications; reports patient adverse drug reactions, medication variances and complaints; participates in educational activities and programs for the interdisciplinary team (1,2,3)

  • Build and maintain strong and positive relationships with medical staff to integrate physicians into clinical pharmacy decision-making processes and services (1,2,3,4,5)

  • Attend meetings and participates on committees as directed/required (1)

  • Serve as a preceptor to pharmacy residents and students when applicable (1,2,3)

  • Develop and maintain an ASHP-accredited residency program (1,2)

  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested

  • Participation in departmental managerial on call rotations

  • May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases

  • Maybe expose to toxic chemicals

  • Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school or college of pharmacy

  • Meets the Pharmacy Department-specified competency requirements consistent with a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1) or post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2), has completed a GPY1 residency, or has a minimum of 2 years of experience in area of specialization in lieu of residency. Minimum of 3 years in the role of Clinical Coordinator in a hospital pharmacy practice setting or post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) Residency in Pharmacy Administration

  • Current California Registered Pharmacist License in good standing Current LA City Fire Card within 90 days of hire

  • 3 years in the role of Clinical Coordinator or 5 years of clinical leadership experience in a hospital pharmacy practice setting

  • Required Protective Equipment: Eye protection, gown, mask, gloves as needed

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Masters of Health Administration or Masters of Business Administration

  • Leadership experience in integrated health system pharmacy operations

  • Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) or appropriate Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification
