Providence Health & Services Pharmacy Technician I in Medford, Oregon
Providence is calling a Pharmacy Technician I to Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, OR. This is a full-time, day and evening shift position. Technician working hours are 8 hour shift rotations between the hours of 6:30 AM to 11:30 PM, 7 days a week. When needed, all full time technicians rotate through covering the night shift (from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM) during vacations or leave of absences. We are seeking applicants who are available to work any day Monday-Sunday. In this position, you will have the ability to cross-train as a Medical History Pharmacy Tech.
The Acute Care Pharmacy Tech I performs duties relating to the filling and dispensing of unit dose and stock medications from the pharmacy to the nursing units and other ancillary departments in a prompt accurate manner. Fill/dispense oral and IV medications, triaging patient orders and maintaining the integrity of the Pyxis Profile System.
In this position, you will have the following responsibilities:
Prepare medications (extemporaneous solutions) for batches (cart fill).
Fill and deliver medications for both inpatients and outpatients.
Complete appropriate documentation per state and federal regulations/guidelines.
Ensure accurate, up-to-date stocking by assisting in stock and inventory control to maintain an adequate supply on hand.
Inventory and stock Pyxis machines on the units.
Monitor patient transfers and discharges to assure continuance/discontinuance of patient medications.
Check inventory of drugs and solutions for outdates and removes or recycles.
Determine quantity needed and package drugs purchased in bulk containers into unit dose packets.
May prepare sterile IV medications calculating the correct amount required to deliver the prescribed dose, measuring accurately the appropriate dose for volume and concentration of solution necessary.
Screen and refer phone calls and drug information requests to pharmacists as appropriate.
Ensure that all bar-codes are correct and functioning before releasing stock for patient use.
Maintain integrity of code cart replenishment process for a final Pharmacist check.
Train new personnel as well as students in respective areas of the pharmacy.
Provide clean and/or aseptic work area by assisting in area maintenance.
Access Pyxis CII safe per policy. Correct any discrepancies upon discovery. Inform supervisor of any unresolvable discrepancies/unusual occurrences.
Dispose of all waste in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
Complete code cart and anesthesia tray replenishment.
Conduct unit inspections on-time per facility requirements.
Required qualifications in this position include:
H.S. Diploma or GED
Current Oregon Board of Pharmacy Technician registration
Preferred qualifications in this position include:
Graduate of a Pharmacy Technician program
Experience with Pyxis, Pyxis CII Safe and Epic
