Providence Associate Distribution Attendant in Lubbock, Texas

Description:

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Associate Distribution Attendant to our location in Lubbock, TX.

We are seeking a Associate Distribution Attendant who will be responsible for the distribution and maintenance of medical supplies and equipment to point-of-care locations throughout the campus independently or with indirect supervision. Using automated systems as tools, performs physical inventories on regular intervals, replenishes and rotates stock, facilitates complete capture of patient account charges, adjusts supply par levels as appropriate in concert with supervisor and manager, and keeps point of care supply areas organized. Makes recommendations for improvement. Responsible for maintaining the efficient functioning of the central supply and equipment inventories, and responds to customer supply orders for special items throughout the shift. Acts as resource for less experienced staff.

In this position you will:

  • Balance:

  • Maintain a balance of stock, non-stock, and C/S medical supply levels in the care areas such that they are:

  • Available as needed to care givers at the point-of-care.

  • At the same time, at minimum reasonable levels to insure good stewardship of the organization’s fiscal resources.

  • Make recommendations for improvements.

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform behavioral competencies (generic and unit specific) as indicated on the competency inventory.

  • Daily Inventory and Distribution Services-Medical Supplies:

  • Daily, monitors inventory of medical supplies in care areas, provides restocking services, and facilitates account charges recovery as needed.

  • Daily, checks all specialty carts and trays for exchange or replacement needs.

  • Assure stock areas are clean, properly labeled, and stored in a spot mutually agreed upon by C/S and caregivers for easy retrieval when needed for patient care. Effectively communicates changes in supply location to appropriate point-of-care personnel.

  • Has expert knowledge of medical supplies in inventory and shares knowledge with point-of-care staff as appropriate. Uses knowledge in problem solving and is accountable for outcomes.

  • Place or assist in placing special orders for non-stock items as appropriate.

  • Follow established departmental policy to assure proper inventory levels. Effectively uses automated support tools where available.

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform behavioral competencies (generic and unit specific) as indicated on the competency inventory.

  • Daily Inventory and Distribution Services-Medical Equipment:

  • Daily, monitors inventory of medical equipment being used in patient rooms and facilitates account charge recovery as needed. Collects medical equipment after patient use and delivers to decontamination services. Makes recommendations for improvements.

  • Daily, checks all medical equipment for proper functioning. Reports equipment repair needs to supervisor or manager.

  • Assure storage areas are clean, properly labeled and organized. Advises supervisor and/or manager of need to rent additional equipment to meet demand. Advises supervisor and/or manager of aging equipment needing replacement in a timely manner, allowing for appropriate lead-time when capital dollars are involved.

  • Has knowledge of the medical equipment in inventory and shares knowledge with point-of-care staff as appropriate. Uses knowledge in problem solving and is accountable for outcomes.

  • Follow established departmental policy to assure proper inventory levels. Effectively uses automated support tools where available.

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform behavioral competencies (generic and unit specific) as indicated on the competency inventory.

  • Maintenance of Working Environment:

  • Contribute to the smooth functioning of the department by taking fair share of tasks that support the working environment; phone answering, keeping an accurate phone log per departmental policy, contributing to the communication log, cleaning as needed, stickering or labeling as needed, abiding by rules for proper attire in sterile areas, and contributing to an atmosphere of positive team effort by cooperating with peers and supervisors to achieve team goals. Acts as a resource for less experienced staff.

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform behavioral competencies (generic and unit specific) as indicated on the competency inventory.

  • Improving Processes:

  • Work within the department’s team-based framework to improve organizational efficiency by standardizing and centralizing procedures, resources, conventions, etc. Ensures that other key users adhere to conventions and procedures to maintain organization and efficiency.

  • Contribute to the team resolutions of challenges and coordinates efforts with peers. Contributes to the cross training of peers.

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform behavioral competencies (generic and unit specific) as indicated on the competency inventory.

  • Continual Learning:

  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, books, and other literature and attending in-services, classes, etc. as made available by management.

  • Participate in the education for certification as student, instructor, or mentor.

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform behavioral competencies (generic and unit specific) as indicated on the competency inventory.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year Distribution/warehouse experience

  • Verbal and written communication skills adequate for regular effective contact with peers, hospital staff, vendors, and other contracts

  • Knowledge of basic healthcare structure, medical terminology, product specifications & use, and materials organization. Basic level financial (patient charging) concepts. Organizational and interpersonal skills adequate to facilitate problem solving

  • Must be able to evaluate requests for services, set appropriate priorities, and communicate priorities to peers and customers tactfully but effectively in order to maintain positive working relationships and confidence from customer areas

  • Must be proficient in required competencies upon completion or orientation as listed on the unit specific Competency Inventory (if applicable)

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Meditech or other Materials Management Information System computer experience
