Providence Health & Services Medical Assistant - Palliative Care in Kodiak, Alaska


Providence is calling a Medical Assistant (Palliative Care, Day, 0.5 FTE) to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska.

Provides medical assistance to palliative care provider. Works cooperatively with palliative care personnel, patients and medical staff by coordinating care delivery of inpatients, outpatients and homebound patients in collaboration with nurse practitioner and registered nurse.

This is a part-time position which will include 20 hours per week.

In this position you will:

  • Conduct patient care procedures as requested.

  • Answer telephone calls, greets patients, receives and screen communications, transmit and tracks correspondence, answer questions, take accurate messages, and keep staff informed of communications received.

  • Document patient information in the patient record. Update the patient history and medication lists as appropriate.

  • Develop a deep understanding of customer’s perspectives and needs and work to meet their expectations.

  • Assist with filing for state or federal finding programs and/or charity care paperwork for patients without insurance.

  • Participate in department, facility and organizational projects or committees as assigned. Assist staff with department specific projects and reporting requirements.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire

  • Proficient with computer programs

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a physician’s office or clinic

  • Familiarity with CPT and ICD-9/ICD 10 coding

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room, and two ICU beds. In addition, the Elder House, PKIMC’s long term care facility, has 22 beds.
