Providence is calling a Cook (Dietary, Variable Shift, 1.0 FTE - 40 hours per week) to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska. In this position you will:

  • Prepares nutritious and appealing meals, adjusting recipes as needed to assure adequate amounts of food is made available while minimizing waste.

  • Supervises and coordinates the general food preparation activities of the dietary aides.

  • Performs routine cleaning duties regularly to ensure the sanitary standards of the department is met in compliance with the Local, State and Federal regulations in conjunction with the HACCP standards.

  • Responsible for accurate portion control for all food served.

  • Responsible for checking the meat thawing carts inside the walk-in cooler daily ascertaining proper stacking protocol requirements and complying with FIFO procedures.

  • Responsible for organization item/stock refills of all products inside the kitchen freezers and coolers. Advises department manager of inventory needs without running short. Makes sure proper temperature is kept within standards and area is clean. Monitors expiration dates.

  • Provides relief coverage for different job classifications within the department.

  • CUSTOMER SERVICE: Embraces the Providence Service Standards in all aspects of position. Presents and conducts self in a professional manner. Provides support to coworkers and customers while demonstrating service excellence by building positive interpersonal relations to ensure productive and positive relationships are maximized.   • CRITICAL THINKING AND ORGANIZATION: Utilizes available resources. Recognizes errors/problems and takes corrective action. Demonstrates effective priority setting and organization skills to promote department flow and cost efficiency. Anticipates and prioritizes workflow and adjusts work assignments to prevent delays and meet work flow demands. Assists with problem resolutions.

  • PERSONNEL: Demonstrates knowledge and support of quality improvement goals. Participates in department projects or committees as assigned.

  • Completes Competency Plan for assigned job and department.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Certification in food safety and sanitation required or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of date of hire

  • 1 year Progressive food production experience, preferably in a health care setting

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical care access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room and 2 ICU beds. In addition, the Elder House, PKIMC's long term care facility, has 22 beds.

PKIMC provides an extensive array of inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency department, surgery, laboratory services, maternity, general medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, sleep studies, specialty clinics, diagnostic imaging services and pharmacy and is staffed by a mix of primary care physicians, surgeons and specialists who provide family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics, radiology and general practice.
